Can't be sure, but the way it seems is that by default when you mark a packet it carries on as per 'passthrough'... If you then have an accept action (rather than mark-packet) looking for that mark then it'll stop, otherwise it'll carry on until it finds another rule that applies to it, where it the...

Hmmm... I upgraded my home router last night so I could make a start on familiarising myself with the new version in a 'production' environment. I had the same experience, and after cursing Mikrotik several times (no offense guys!), I got to thinking that there is almost no way you can take the mang...

heh I would never have thought of using ARP to solve this... I would have fiddled with the firewall settings and blocked the entire IP block in the forward chain (or a sub-chain). Just drop/reject all traffic to/from the entire IP block and then place accept rules for each of the IPs that are alloca...

The soldering skills we've got so it is a possibility.

Whether we'll actually do it is a different story altogether. It's something we'll have to weigh up.

Can you elaborate?

RB18s and such...

Recently one of our clients has been having problems with Routerboard 18s. We've investigated thoroughly and found the issue to be with the RB230. Mikrotik agrees that the RB230 cannot supply sufficient current on the 3.3V line for the RB18s to function with a full complement of cards. The official ...

Here is an interesting change (in my opinion)

"added support for 0 and less tx-power for wireless;"

Can someone maybe explain what and why and where you'd use less than 0 tx-power?

Dual Gateway (again) with a twist

At least I think it's a twist... Hypothetical situation (it's real but we'll pretend it isn't so I don't look stupid for trying it) I have two ADSL links. Both to the same provider. When both connections are made, I have the following: ADSL link 1 IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GW: 10.0.0.1 ADSL link 2 IP: yyy...

I basically setup each wlan interface as an AP/Bridge and enabled dynamic WDS. I then bridged the wds and wlan interfaces on each AP config, and set this bridge as the default-wds-bridge. No matter which AP I connect to the PPPoE client authenticates. Admittedly I am testing this on a single RouterO...

Is there any way to setup the following... I have two access points, AP1 and AP2. AP1 runs a PPPoE Server. I need all users connecting to AP2 to be able to authenticate with the PPPoE server on AP1. Can you go into a bit more detail on what you actually want to do? What sort of access do you want to control? Users? IPs? Subnets? Protocols?

Once we establish that, we can see if the RouterOS supports it and then it's a matter of configuring the scripts/scheduler and so forth...

Something for the RouterBoard package...

Possibly a way to access the Routerboard 200 series BIOS from within the RouterOS, so you can change the boot priority/device if needed. There have been several situations where that would have be useful.

Of course none of the changes need to be made active until the next reboot.
