Re: Email Notifications in dude and SMTP

I use my primary SMTP server with Dude and no authentication. But the Dude server is running on a private IP address behind the corporate firewall. My SMTP server is setup to allow the sending of messages without authentication from the private IP addresses of my network but require authentication f...

Re: Ping a subnet through NAT?

There is no way for Dude to understand what devices are behind a NAT by scanning the public IP address of the NAT. But you can scan the private IP subnet of your local LAN if you setup a VPN between your home network and your work network. Or if you are using Cisco routers (Linksys doesn't count) yo...

Re: Question about deleting logs

If you haven't figured this out yet, here is one way to do it. This works if you only have a few devices that you need to reset the outage start time for. Double click on the device in the map, then select the "Services" tab. Delete the services for this device. Then add the services back ...

Re: Need to draw Lines and Boxes in the Map

On the map in an open area of the map, right click with the mouse. The popup menu has a selection at the bottom of the list labeled "link". Select the "link" and then click on the switch and then the computer you want a line drawn to. Repeat procedure for other computers.

Re: Help me on Dude Probe Interval

Default settings are 30 seconds for poll interval, 10 seconds for timeout, and downcount of 5. The Dude (as well as most active monitoring systems) actively polls (queries) the devices that it is managing. This poll typically is a standard ICMP ping to determine if the device is still alive on the n...

Re: dude server : database ?

The Dude uses a proprietary database structure to contain the full network configuration as well as any performance data that you are logging. While this is a proprietary format, there is an export and import function that will export the database for backup purposes. The exported database is a stan...

Re: Dual Core?

That computer will be more than adequate to serve as a Dude server. I have approximately 475 devices on my Dude server presently and it is a 2.8GHz P4 with Hyperthreading (Intel fake dual core). Typical CPU usage is around 4-6%. This is with 6 active clients also accessing the server. Memory usage i...

Re: Can Dude minitor large network up to 500 nodes ???

Simple short answer: Yes. As the size of your network grows though, you may want to look at your polling interval. A relatively short polling interval with many devices starts to create quite a bit of local traffic from your Dude server. I have about 475 devices presently and have increased my polli...

Dude high memory usage

I was having a problem with The Dude gradually increasing it's memory usage to very large numbers (over 700M). At the same time I would see approximately 1.5Mb/s of traffic from Dude Server using the network interface monitor function of Task Manager. I run The Dude on a 2.8GHz P4 with Hyperthreadin...

I am having the same problem except the date that it puts on my notes is Dec/31/1969 18:00. Some of the notes that I have entered were done under Beta 8, some under Beta 9, but most under Beta 10. All notes presently display the same time. In some cases I right clicked on a device on the map and sel...

I can't help you with the telnet service not turning off but to copy event log information you can open the actual Event Log file with a text editor (Notepad, Wordpad, etc.) and easily copy any event or series of events you desire. The actual Event Log is found in the "\Program Files\Dude\data\...
