The Dude definitely played a role. I had multiple crashes this morning. Just opening the device in The Dude would crash the router. I disabled SNMP and RouterOS probing for that device in The Dude and that stopped the crashing. Too early to tell if it stops the memory leak, but the 30 minutes of out...
That is interesting and thanks for the suggestion. I thought about it this morning and I can't get past the idea of losing all of my stats tracking to try this. It truly is a shame MT hasn't taken this issue seriously. I think I'll send an email to support just to give them one more shot at a resolu...
I'm the original poster and I've been running this for the last year or so and have had multiple "crashes". The RB1000 keeps routing, so customers don't notice a problem. However, I cannot login with WinBox and VPN sessions won't establish. That's when I know it's time to reboot the thing....
I had to reboot my router the other day for upgrade to 4.10, but until that point, a sawtooth pattern was beginning to emerge on my memory usage. No instability encountered yet. http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/1645/monthlynew.gif So far on 4.10 and upgraded RB1000 firmware to 2.27 the climb has beg...
I recently turned up my first BGP sessions using ROS. It is with 2 ISPs. I am taking full routes from each ISP using a RB1000. My memory usage graphs are showing a disturbing trend that appears to be a memory leak. Monthly: http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/9637/monthly.gif Yearly: http://img268.im...
It would surely be nice if this behavior could be changed. Once an ACK'd device goes back to green, it should not return to ACK unless I re-ACK it on a subsequent outage.
I tried RB1000 with ~500 PPPoE connections pushing about 20Mbps. CPU usage was over 80%. On x86 Intel Core2Quad server, same number of users and traffic is only 40% CPU, and that is with multi-core turned off due to it's instability. I would not use RB1000 for 2000 PPPoE sessions. Seems like it's CP...
"Hardware is fine" and "with no load" do not fit into one sentence. You must STRESS that CPU and RAM. dot-bot, you are right. I stressed my system, ran some tests and found RAM to be throwing errors. MT, you have my apologies for blaming you for my router's instability. Once I p...
Has this issue been fixed in 3.19 or 3.20? I see no mention of it in the changelog, and am wary of putting any version newer than 3.17 on my system due to this instability I noticed.
This is how the connection goes: Customer (pppoe client) -> Trango SU -> Trango AP -> 24 port ethernet switch -> RB433AH Bridge (ether1 and ether2) -> Orthogon P2P Backhaul -> 24 port ethernet switch -> x86 router (pppoe server - ROS 3.17) -> Internet The pppoe client could be any number of resident...
I just installed a RB433AH, with ROS 3.18 on it, as a transparent bridge. ether1 and ether2 were the two bridge ports. This bridge is between PPPOE clients (various Linksys and netgear routers) and PPPOE Server (Mikrotik ROS 3.17). The following issues I noticed: 1. customers on non-wireless Linksys...
Still no response to my ticket. Almost a month now This is the first time in 3 years of usage that I've had to request support from MT, and quite frankly, I'm very disappointed. I purchased a Level 6 license for this server, and this is the support I get?! Does anyone know of a way to simulate 400+ ...
so far, no response from support. My router rebooted itself twice last night, so I've had to pull it out of production. I'm very disappointed to say the least. I'm still hoping to get some guidance from MT on this problem. Normis, do you have any ideas?
Over the weekend, my new pc based router has taken it upon itself to reboot at random times. It happend once each day on Saturday and Sunday. I expect the same thing again this afternoon. I log to a remote syslog server, and there is nothing in the logs that would point to why this is happening. No ...
The CPU, Memory and Disk Usage graphs did not stop recording during the event. And, it shows my max memory usage at only 56MB. I have 2G in the server. It could be the graph is inaccurate, but it does not appear my memory usage is to blame. My average usage is 47MB, so the high of 56MB does not seem...
normis, thank you for taking the time to reply to this topic. Response from Mikrotik support staff is very much appreciated. This tells us you are listening to your customers, which seems rare in this industry. I agree with you on the speed point. I did not describe my complaint accurately. The rout...
Just a note on the "minimal speed gain". With multi-cpu enabled, my CPU usage is about 7-10%. Once I turned it off, I now have 30-35% usage. This is with about 400 PPPoE sessions and about 20Mbps traffic usage. That is not a minimal impact!
multi-core is not stable yet, use single core. the speed gain is minimal anyway What is this?! We've had multi-core since version 3. You are saying speed gain is minimal going from a single core to a quad core? Can you give more details on what is wrong with multi-core support? This is a major prob...
I do have NTP client setup and "save to disk" is enabled. I still find that quite often just rebooting the router will lose all the graphs. I have a hunch that maybe after rebooting it takes some time for NTP to sync up and in the meantime, it does a "Write" for the graphs and s...
Having the exact same problem on my new RB1000. Using a 2GB 80x card. No beep, no post via console cable. Just the blue light. I have a call in with my distributor who is looking into it. Has anyone gotten any CF card to work in the RB1000? Perhaps we need a list of supported cards. I'd be happy to ...
Also, happy to report I no longer have to restart The Dude service every 4 hours to prevent my entire network as showing down in The Dude. Running RC3, I am starting to see random devices report down when they really aren't. Re-probing them immediately shows them up. It appears this problem isn't c...
I can confirm Avast thinks dude.exe contains a trojan. To get around, I just exclude The Dude's program folder. But this causes problems for the Clients also. My partner's AVG8 nailed it too. I can also confirm the background image bug is fixed for me. A big thanks for that quick fix guys! Also, hap...
using custom image for background causing CPU to max out and The Dude display to become basically useless for non-responsiveness. Having to revert back to 3.0b7 where this issue does not exist.
Looks like they have no interest in addressing this. I'm currently migrating to Nagios for monitoring. The Dude is still great as a system mapping software, it just can't be relied on for outage notifications.
I've been restarting my service every 4 hours and that seems to have "fixed" the issue for me. However on a rare occasion (happened twice now), I still get all devices showing down even within the 4 hour time window. It fixes itself after the service restart though. MT, is this something y...
uldis and normis, is there anything we can do to help troubleshoot this issue? The Dude is such great software and yes, I too would be willing to pay for it if that would help justify more development time at MT. It has such great potential.
Has anything been discovered by the MT crew on this? I am experiencing the same problem. The Dude (3.0b7) is running on a Win2K3 server as a service, and after 24-48 hours, many of my devices start showing as down. If I restart the service in windows, all comes back green. My network has about 100 d...
Yes, I did create for x86. And, good to know about the time only counting while up. That will help. Still, it would be nice to put a demo license on it so I could leave the machine on for stress testing.
Hi I dont know why, I have problem with registering (demo key - level 1) RouterOS 3.0 beta 7 which I installed on vmware When I enter key generated via www interface (I set Device type: x86 system) I get an error Can someone confirm this ? I get an Invalid Key error when trying to import or paste a...
It is possible to override next-server for each ip subnet separately under /ip dhcp-server network Thanks normis I found it via SSH where you said it would be. It would very helpful if all DHCP options were available on winbox. Even via SSH /ip dhcp-server network print doesn't show those values se...
I am trying to use R.O.S. 2.9 to run a DHCP server for a DOCSIS cable modem system. I used to use linux running ISC DHCP, which worked fine. But the Mikrotik ROS is much better for other admin tasks. That said, I've run into a problem where the cable modems use the DHCP "next-server" optio...
