Re: Growing out of RB433AH? RB for border router.

I DO think he would need some serious power, because he now runs at nearly 100% of his rb433ah, and wants to double or triple his customers, hence his throughput, and that will not work out with 120 MHz more of processing power. And even with his atm not too large buisness, I would not recommend to ...

Re: Growing out of RB433AH? RB for border router.

Hi Bomber67, you could split up tasks between RB's, I would recomment to put the wirless connection on a separate board, only doing wireless backhaul / backbone whatever. if your cpu is at 100 %, wireless will suffer as well as your firewall throughput. Perhaps a RBB 800 would do the trick for you, ...

Re: RB493G features and first impressions

Hi, just a quick question, Tom. Would it be possible to use a patchcable (1m, 0,5 m) and put it in switchgroup one with one end, switchgroup two with second end? that way you would have at least 7 GBit ports left, with a "Backplane" of only 1 Gbit/s FD, but that could suffice for many thin...

Re: Access some domains through a special (other) gateway

Thanks for your reply, but WSUS is not an option in this network, as we do not have a AD Domain, it's a little WISP network (100 customers atm). So no way to get them to use the wsus server... as for the transparent proxy, I was going to use that anyway, but IPCOP is limited (out of the box, that is...

Hi all, after lots of searching, i finally come to ask YOU for a solution: I have 3 Internet connections, WAN1 to WAN3. Hi, I would suggest you connect your second Router with WDS to the first one, this should tell you how: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Transparently_Bridge_two_Networks You can leave your first one to APBridge, so clients could connect along with the WDS. If you need more bandwith, just add a second ...

Hi, BRIDGE - that is exactly your problem. A bridge can not do NAT, it is a bridge, a unique Interface with more than one port, but only one Interface. Just delete the bridge, give each LAN interface his own IP in it's own address space and give the WAN interface it's IP or set it to DHCP-client. Th...

Hi, You say you use this setup indoors, with SNR of 15-16 dbi. You also say that there are 2 floors between the two RB133. That means, people or perhaps even vehicles could cross your signal from one RB to the other!?! With that distance inside a building you have to get some problems i suppose. Hav...

Another option comes to mind: If your routerboard has more than 3 lan ports, you could just use different subnets with dhcp for guest and company lan, using ether1 and ether2 of the routerboard. Hi, if you really need to browse the lan, you need to set up a DNS server, so the single client on Guest lan can ask for IP's. If there are only a few shares on a few computers /Servers, which this client has to access, just use "net use x:\\IP-adress\sharename" on that client to map the s...

Re: Allowing two subnets to work together

To use RB133 as a bridge between wired an wireless lan the easiest way is to use only one IP-Range for both sides of the bridge (LAN and WLAN). If you have too much PC's connected to your Network for a 192.168.1.0/24 Subnet (Allows you 254 machines) just use 192.168.2.0/23 Network for all clients (W...

The network 192.168.0.0/22 will give him opportunity for 1022 IP's, but I think Windows PC will not be able to see each other while on a different /24 subnet in that range, they could see the router if it's address is inside the same range as the clients (192.168.1.0/24 for LAN and 192.168.2.0/24 fo...

Re: Allowing two subnets to work together

Personally, I would route them on the mikrotik box. I suppose, the mikrotik board is the standard gateway for both lan and wlan !?!. If that's true, all you have to do is to make sure that the wlan-interface is on 192.168.2.0/24 and the lan-interface is on 192.168.1.0/24. Then you should already be ...

Re: 802.11b limit - CSMA

Hi Alessio, the signal strength at your CPE side is a bit low for that distance with your power settings. The free-space loss is about 110 db for 3 Km, given your 25 db tx-power and 14 dbi antenna on AP side, and a 14 db antenna on cpe side you should be at 110 -25 -14 -14 = -57 db (without cable lo...

Hi Alessio, I don't think the minipci-card is your problem, there's no need for a "stronger" one. I have AP's with up to 40 Customers on one mini-pci. With that many clients you don't want (need) a limitation for clients, as they will limitate themselves - sort of. If you can't use Nstreme...

As you use different client-CPE, you are not able to use Nstreme with polling. Sounds to me like a hidden station problem, speak some of your client-CPE's can't "hear" all of the others connected to the same AP, so they send their data simultanously, getting a "stop" from AP, wai...

Use only clients with NAT enabled, so broadcast domain for network loops will only be behind NAT-Router, causing only this one user trouble. Depending on your setup, I would suggest you add wlan1, wlan2 and ether 1 to the same ONE bridge (if no routing / NAT is required between the 192's and the clients). If you have to do NAT for Internet connection, please take a look at the doc's and wiki.

I would not use the 23 db antenna to test indoors, just use small 2 to 4 dbi antenna for testing.
