which platform are you using to connect the remote sites to your core-is it RF or fibre? If it is RF that is a 5Ghz-based, do check the quality of the link.

are you trying to do a load balance? if yes, then as_path prepend can be applied

How many routers are we having for this setup cos from your post it is only one router. BGP works with peer, that is, you need at least more than 2 routers to create a BGP session.

VRF is a way of separating routes into different routing tables in the same router. One router having multples routing tables.

Since the router was setup by your provider, just give them a call asking for the login credentials.
Or if you have the backup, you can use the reset button to reset the device after which you will upload the backup to your router.

From the manual of this device, it has a single ethernet port rated has 10/100. Try accessing from that port and continue your cofiguration

Basically, the source address configuration on the HQ-A, should be 192.168.40.0/24 while the destination address should be 172.100.40.0/24.
