OK, so you seem to use IPsec for L2TP, that explains the difference in throughput. If you care about security of the tunnels so little that you can afford to use PPTP, you can use L2TP the same way, i.e. without the IPsec. thanks alot. we used this solution (l2tp) for some branches without any problem but because pptp was faster, almoust all of our branches used that.

we have a pptp server that has public ip address and some branches using pptp client to connect to the headquarter. so some connections (and sometimes all of them) have problem: connection is active but cannot be ping the remote address and then those branches cannot use local resources and services...

in some cases the problem is: full memory! some mikrotik routers has just 16MB of memory that when you install all packages it becomes full.

I have same problem but it was not solved by your solution!
my client has an android version 8 (last updated) and when he try to connect to pptp server on my mikrotik x86 6.40.3 in "Log" these lines appears:
tcp connection established from x.x.x.
user x authentication failed!

we are using a VPN server (pptp tunnel) that our branches connect to. Then we can telnet them by private ip address eg. 172.21.x.246. So what I said before happens! Upgrade router to latest long-term (currently 6.44.5) ... and try again. Beware that upgrade might break some configuration, bridge setup has changed between 6.42 and 6.43.
I did it, but nothing changed! I think there is no way but resetting configurations!

I use telnet on windows server 2012 R2 cmd.
in some cases I encountered with this error! in many others there is no error and problem!
