MT scripting

is there a way to compare dates within Mikrotik scripts? I'm trying to set up SMS alerts using netwatch for devices that are daisy-chained, but I only want an alert for the device that went down/up. I've figured out how to prevent the alert when things go down in the chain, just check to see if the ...

Re: Very impressed by Routerboard and RouterOS

I've been slowly transitioning my WISP network to all MT gear for a while now. My life would have been much simpler had I started out that way from the get-go. Live & learn... Just want to echo the sentiment - the platform rocks! My primary "core" router that actually runs my infrastru...

Feature request for the RB411AR - 802.11a

I've been looking at the RB411AR boards, and they would be an ideal fit for what I'm doing if the built in wireless card was a/b/g instead of just b/g. Any plans for releasing a RB with an a/b/g card built in?

Re: VLAN Configuration

My issue is actually slightly different. Port 1 of the MT box is connected to a backhaul bridge which is the "truncked" interface with all of the VLANs connecting back to my main router. Port 2 has a Tranzeo AP. The AP has an option for to have the web config accessible through a VLAN inte...

VLAN Configuration

Ok, this seems like a simple thing, but I can't figure out how to implement it on my MT. I have a 5 port miniRouter Routerboard that I'm trying to use as a small VLAN switch. Port 1 of the switch is connected to a wireless backhaul radio which bridges back to the rest of my network. This port needs ...

Re: intermittent Hotspot Radius & CHAP issues

One MT box has a timeout of 1500ms, the other had a timeout of 800ms. I changed it to 1500ms so they are both consistent. Here are the stats from the primary Radius off one of the boxes: pending: 0 requests: 213712 accepts: 207408 rejects: 6091 resends: 699 timeouts: 213 bad-replies: 35 last-request...

intermittent Hotspot Radius & CHAP issues

I seem to be running into this more & more often; I have 2 MTs out there running hotspots. One is at our local library & the other runs my entire WISP infrastructure. Both are ver. 2.9.51. (I tried to upgrade the main one many months back to ver 3.x but PPPoE died a horrible death in the pro...

I just got a MT newsletter mentioning virualization & I'm wondering if this would work... I would love to use a MT routerboard as a CPE for clients connecting to our WiFi network & install a "mini" version of Astrerisk on the same device. kill 2 birds with 1 stone; provide an inter...

MTU woes

I've got some major MTU issues that I've been pulling my hair out over for quite some time. Here's my scenario: My upstream connection's MTU is needs to be set to 1460 (according to my provider's engineers). I have a MT Router set up as a PPPoE client connecting my network to the internet. Behind it...

Re: PPPoE woes

I emailed Mikrotik support; but have not gotten a response yet. The router is connected to a switch which is then connected via PtP links to Tranzeo & Proxim Access Points (so there is no "wireless interface" on the Mikrotik). Neither of these APs have logging functionality that helps ...

Re: PPPoE woes

there is nothing in the encoding column, should it have some value there? I'm not sure if the problem is with the router or not, but it sure seems that way. I use a variety of PPPoE clients, and all of them behave the same way. The client router logs in; they're online for a while, then the server d...

PPPoE woes

My PPPoE server is not diconnecting clients "gracefully". The session gets dropped on the server, but the client continues to think it is connected, so it never re-esstablishes the session. A majority of my clients are Tranzeo CPEs, but the issue is not limited to their gear exclusively. T...

You can set the amount of time that the address is added to the Address List. It's not a foolproof way, but it might be the easiest. (ie. set it to 30 seconds, so for the first 30 seconds the user sees the page, after that they can browse.) Another way is to add a rule that removes the address from ...

There's no direct way, but this worked for me in a different scernario, it might work in your situation as well. 1. Add an outgoing filter chain to your pppoe user profile. 2. Add a Filter Rule to the that chain to add the address to an Address List 3. Now you can add a NAT redirect rule that applie...

You can set rate limits by using the "Rate-Limit" attribute within radius. for example; if you want your users to have a limit of 350kbps download / 256kbps upload with bursts up to 512kbps and a burst threshhold of of 400kbps over a 5 second interval your radius attribute would look like ...

PPPoE works independently of HotSpot. All users connecting via PPPoE will bypass Hotspot altogether. You may need to find an alternate way of displaying your initial splash page. Maybe a NAT redirect rule triggered by PPPoE profile or something like that.

Hotspot & multiple interfaces

I have multiple APs separated by VLANs all going through a single MT. I've added a Hotspot server to each VLAN interface. Each VLAN & Hotspot on the VLAN has a different IP Pool. When the hotspot performs One-to-one NAT, an ip address which is set in the Default User Profile is assigned instead ...

I would love to see more control of various MT functions through Radius Attributes. Specifically: 1. Ability to jump to chains in both NAT Rules and Mangle Rules I see that "Mark-Id" creates jump in Mangle rules, but it only works for Hotspot, it would be great for PPPoE as well. 2. Abilit...
