I've had issues with the later OS revisions disabling the interfaces during the update process. The only thing you can do is go for the console. That can be interesting though, because the later OS versions mismatch the serial parms by turning on hardware flow control where the BIOS uses no flow con...

5GHz 10 mile links are definitely possible.

We use a pair of Routerboard 532As with 100mW Atheros radios at 5.2 GHz 802.11a driving a 28dB solid dish and it maintains a solid 48meg link speed at 9.6 miles and we have another with 24meg link rates at 14 miles. Been working great for well past a year now.
