My guess would be that it is down to an error being thrown up by the chip, so the question should probably be asked of the manufacturer of the m.2 to mpcie adapter card. Seems it would probably just make sense to get hold of an adapter which doesn’t have a sim slot. Or as you say you haven’t done it...
