Re: Help DNS approach to Faster Browsing

Yes. But if he has many clients using his caching servers, chance is that answer is cached already. If it's not, then answer to your query will be cached and ready fir anotger user asking same question. So some queries will go out to the wild, possibly traversing all DNS hierarchy from the root ser...

Re: Help DNS approach to Faster Browsing

Authoritativity of servers depends on whether they are declared (by SOA and NS records) as such for certain domain(s). All other servers are caching servers. Like DNS server at 8.8.8.8 is caching server for mikrotik.com ... and servers of @TomjNorthIdaho are exactly the same in tthis respect. So a ...

Kinda concerned about the partially negative and judging tone in this community recently. Feeling sorry for the OPs who are faced with this, when being a bit kinder and forthcoming wouldn't cost a thing.

Re: The predicted demise of "tls-host=" firewall filters is near!

Or just block based on IP or IP address ranges. Just like always because for years we knew this was coming. You can also block the IP addresses of the DOH servers like I did today when Firefox always want to inform dooh.cloudflare.com that I just started the browser. And yes, I disable DOH in Firef...

So sell that inadequate router and buy one that meets your requirements. Stop wasting time dwelling on things out of your control.

I run three LANs on one router without VLANs. It shouldn't be an issue for the OP.

Re: Can't upgrade: ERROR: could not resolve dns name

I never had problems resolving DNS using Capsman: https://i.imgur.com/lCyIT7c.jpg I not know what is but something in your config should be bad. Regards. I never use, or used, CAPSMAN. RouterOS went from successfully updating packages to spawning an error after anupgrade (I can't recall which one)....

Re: Can't upgrade: ERROR: could not resolve dns name

I can manually upgrade without issues. However, @holvoetn is correct, pings won't resolve from the terminal. Now I can't rest until the problem reveals itself.

Re: Can't upgrade: ERROR: could not resolve dns name

Something is definitely goofed up. Rebooting, upgrading, nothing removes the error. I can resolve www.mikrotik.com from tools/ping/ in RouterOS, so I know DNS is working.
I can see download.mikrotik.com in the cache.

Re: Can't upgrade: ERROR: could not resolve dns name

I've been afflicted with the same issue. Setting the DNS server on the router doesn't solve the problem. I can access the download site through RouterOS but not from RouterOS. I even added a static DNS address for the download server. Still no luck.
