Because instead of reinventing the wheel themselves, they can just borrow a lot more pre-existing code and leverage it. Re: ISP CCR2216 L3HW-Offloading Issues

MPLS is 0% HW offloaded Any packets with a label will hit the routers CPU. The only saving grace is the limited MPLS/VPLS FastPath support that will somewhat accelerate the software based forwarding. Because of this, CCR2116 and CCR2216 are really only suitable for very basic ISP's doing pure L3 for...

This seems like a fundamental oversight on Mikrotik's part that MPLS performance is so poor in RouterOS v7.

Re: v7.14beta [testing] is released!

Is there anything known about a "wifi-mediatek" package? That will be for Mikrotik's coming WiFi 7 devices or potentially for WiFi 6 AP's. The MediaTek chips are more energy efficient and output less heat so as long as they can match the Qualcomm driver stability and feature support would...

FastPath isn't going to cut it in 2024.

They need to use DPDK/VPP for line-rate software dataplane. Maybe XDP for ingress filtering.
They can use whatever they want, as long as it gets the job done.

It seems that Mikrotik need to write a new software based MPLS data plane (FastPath module in Mikrotik terminology) that can distribute load across multiple cores. And while the code and protocols are fresh in the developers minds, having a VPLS FastPath module would be great too. I know that elsewh...

I would first check with your ISP whether they support IPoE AKA DHCP. That will dramatically lower the overhead on the Mikrotik router.

It is quite uncommon for ISP's to only use PPPoE on FTTP services.

Many people are willing to pay that cost, though, is the point. A MikroTik box won't cost me $400k.

Nice to see you are happy. I would have been happy when they had added a "bfd" type. (I don't see much use for DoS'ing a website from a router...)
I still dont understand the request for some hybrid netwatch + bfd combo.

I think the best use case for the CCR2004-1G-2XS-PCIe in a hyperconverged infrastructure is to form a network fabric between nodes and offload the VXLAN/eVPN functionality. Or to provide a L3 firewall in front of the Hypervisor node.

Re: v7.1rc4 [development] is released!

Is MLAG working better with these latest releases? There are still issues in rc4 with MLAG. Specifically if you add ports to the bridge that has MLAG ports in it, it will cause traffic flow across the bridge to stop to some ports. You then need to disable/enable the bridge to get it working, or reb...

Re: VRF status with RouterOS v7

Since we now have IPv6 VRF support, I do not see the reason why not.
How about EVPN with vxlan? is that going to be added soon too?
I would personally hope that Mikrotik implement EVPN+VXLAN as well as EVPN+MPLS as per the RFC

Re: Load balancing with MPLS (breaks LACP)

MPLS traffic can be load balanced across the members of a bonding interface if you use balance-rr instead of 802.3ad.
It sure can, but please remember this will only work reliably when it is Mikrotik <---> Mikrotik or Mikrotik <---> Linux with both ends configured for balance-rr
