DHCP issues on a wireless bridge

Thanks guys, I'll mess around with those in my free time. In terms of effort though, static IP's is the easiest. Yes, there is a bit of admin giving new users static IP's but it's not a big site. I'll have to do some homework before trying those solutions. Edit: three words that solved *all* my prob...

DHCP issues on a wireless bridge

In case someone else has this issue, I resolved to just put all clients, fixed and wireless, at Site 2 on static IP's. Sorted. Roaming between Site 1 and 2 isn't an issue any more it seems. Edit: I noted periods where the network would hang for minutes at a time. So while static IP's worked, I still...

DHCP issues on a wireless bridge

I maintain 2 sites and recently Site 2 requested wireless network in addition to the fixed network. This seemed easy enough but I consistently got 169.xxx.xxx.xxx meaning that DHCP could not assign an address from the range. To further clarify the issue: Network topology: Site 1: LTE CPE - provides ...

Re: Faulty ethernet port on RB411?

Just to update on this topic. It was by chance that I discovered the root cause because I was not really bothered to return the routerboard due to the downtime that would result. A few weeks later, some of my other ports on my router starting going yellow. Only 1 port would work on green but even if...

Re: Faulty ethernet port on RB411?

You mean winbox into the RB411 direct from my PC, bypassing the ADSL router? Yeah, I guess I can do that. I was just wondering how something like this all of a sudden happens. I came to the conclusion that the RB411 is most probably faulty, what else could it be?

Faulty ethernet port on RB411?

Not too long along we had some bad weather and my whole network took a knock. ADSL router got fried and the CPE on my side of the wireless bridge also died. So I replaced both with the CPE getting a shiny new RB411. Now like 5 months on, all is running well. Last week I noticed that Port 1 on my rou...

Re: CPU usage on RB411 + R52 CPE

cpu usage doesn't mean anything unless it stays on 100% and you can feel some slowdown Just a quick update after my network has been running stable for the past few weeks. CPU usage jumps anywhere between 0-25% and there is no problem as Normis said. Thus my RB411's have no issues and I was just be...

Re: Time keeping in the event of a power failure

Sup guys, thanks for the replies. My NTP has gone dead and I cannot trace my steps. I also deleted all my config backups under System > Files in favour of keeping only the latest backup. When it was working, my ADSL router had DHCP server turned on and my whole network was getting IP's from the pool...

Re: Time keeping in the event of a power failure

To update for any South African users: Time Servers in ZA can be found here but note you can only link to a "Stratum-2 Server". I found ntp.is.za to have public access and my RouterBoard is being updated every 64s. [admin@MikroTik] /system ntp client> print enabled: yes mode: broadcast pri...

Re: RouterOS upgrade for a N00b ;)

Upgrade success! Make sure to check the MD5 checksum first of course. Then dragged and dropped the .npk file into the Files window in WinBox as you said. Only problem is that my random disconnects halted transfer progress at 4.5MB! :? Luckily when the RouterBoard booted, I guess it could not r...

Re: CPU usage on RB411 + R52 CPE

version of winbox is definitely not 3.6 :) you probably also see the RouterOS version there. best way to look - in the package list (system -> packages). Okay, I see the WinBox Loader is v2.2.13. Erm, so how come I have a v3.6 ROS? :? I thought the latest was v3.11? MMM MMM KKK TTTTTTTTTTT KKK MMMM...

Re: R52H Faillure Rate Continues

This has been a VERY informative thread. On buying my MikroTik CPE's, my supplier populated the MPCI slots with Compex CX-WLM54AG. I was biased towards the MikroTik brand and asked for an upgrade to R52H. At the same time, I came across this thread and instead asked for the Compex CX-WLM54AG23... no...

Re: Next gen wireless card poll

With u.fl we have heaps of problems. Our manufacturers have taken to using hot glue to hold the pigtails in place Why exactly is this done? Is this because "tower climbers" must work on the enclosures in the air and they damage the u.FL connector when opening it? And how come do pigtails ...

Ah, okay. Will just upgrade then and experiment with configurations from there, e.g. Bridge <--> Station as compared to what is currently set.

Best / recommended Level 3 p2p link?

My supplier set my CPE's (RB411, R52 MPCI) to run in Bridge-WDS <---> Bridge with Nstreme enabled. In another thread I was advised to upgrade to RouterOS 3.11 which means I will probably lose my current configuration. So...what would be the best configuration given 2x Level 3 licenses and a p2p link...

Time keeping in the event of a power failure

I don't have my PoE injector connected to a UPS and we tend to have frequent power failures. Already while testing my new setup, I have noted that after setting the time and shutting down the CPE to unplug the PoE, the time set in WinBox is lost. Thus the next time I open up the Log I see Jan/1970 t...

RouterOS upgrade for a N00b ;)

I've started a new thread as all my new questions are off-topic in my old thread. So here I've been under the impression that RouterOS can only be installed via the serial port on the RouterBoard. After Normis gave me a heads up, and after seeing this wiki, I'm very pleased one can do a simple "...

Re: CPU usage on RB411 + R52 CPE

Thanks for the welcome Normis. 8) I'm probably just being paranoid but I wanted to make sure about RouterOS upgrades etc. before sealing off the CPE i.e. mounted on masts at both ends and the trouble of taking them down to get access to the serial ports. (Is this the only way to upgrade? Does one ha...

CPU usage on RB411 + R52 CPE

Greetings from South Africa! I have been trolling the forums for a week now and decided it was time to post! I have seen other posts on CPU usage and more often then not, there seems to be a problem with faulty hardware. :? I have been dabbling with MikroTik 411's and RouterOS 3.6 for little more th...
