Re: Mikrotik roaming solution

Sure - Sorry for the delay in response. Each of my AP's are RB411a's with a r52 wireless card, and the lan and the wlan are bridged together. Assign it a particular ip in your choice of range....I like 10.5.50.x. Make sure that your WLAN is in AP/Bridge mode. My main router is a rb493.....each of th...

Re: Mikrotik roaming solution

I've done something similar in several buildings here. Essentially by ip bridging the ports that the ap's are connected to on the main router and then binding each ap to the hotspot worked for me.

Hope this helps :)

Re: Hotspot 'Why" Question

Thanx for the suggestion - I may give that a go. This particular hotspot has been operational for a couple of months now and it's worked flawlessly. I'm hoping (there are things that are out of my control) to actually move to user manager soon. At least by the end of the year.

Hotspot 'Why" Question

Hey Guys - I had a problem this morning with one of my hotspots, where it wouldn't let you login. My setup (weird I know) is that I have one sole user on the hotspot so that it has free access, and I've allowed this user to have 200 instances. All I had to do was delete/recreate the user, but I was ...

Re: mikrotik t-shirts

Can you add the option to have a women's cut instead of the standard t? That would ROCK!

Thanx!

Re: MikroTik User Meeting in USA

Just wanted to say that I had an absolute BLAST and learned a few interesting new tricks. It was nice to meet some of the faces behind the names.....

Already looking forward to the next MUM in the States!

Re: ip hotspot loggin page does not automatically redirect??

I upgraded my rb433 to RouterOS v4 Beta and it solved the issue.

Re: ip hotspot loggin page does not automatically redirect??

I'm having the very same problem on a hotspot that I have on a rb433, and I'm also using OpenDNS. However, I have other hotspots that I'm running on RB411's and OpenDNS that are fine. The only difference is that I'm using RouterOS 3.28 on the rb433, and I haven't upgraded the RB411's yet (they are b...

Re: Multiple Mikrotik's responding as one hotspot

Well, I've finally got all of my boxes built, and have tried this. I think I'm missing something, everything works great until a client tries to connect- and it's not able to pass DHCP along each AP. I tried a DHCP relay on the AP's without any luck (unless I didn't do that right either) - any sugge...

Re: Odd DNS behavour

I just went ahead and blocked our local DNS servers entirely, so that OpenDNS has the opportunity to answer the request for local stuffs.

Works like a charm!

Re: Odd DNS behavour

More info:

The DNS server that I'm fighting against is Windows 2003, and it seems to be only intercepting requests that are local. I have access to this box, but currently am not in charge of managing it. Thanx in advance for any input!

Odd DNS behavour

I am seeing odd behavior with DNS resolution on local machines when pinging from a client that is attached to one of my AP's. I am using OpenDNS - so I would have thought that it would resolve to the externals, but it's not. I have the firewall setup that it won't allow the client to get a response ...

Re: Multiple Mikrotik's responding as one hotspot

Thanx for the direction - I'm obviously new to all of this, but I get to go to MUM :) I'm a programmer that is wading through learning routing......I'm waiting for a PO before I can order my stuffs, but I hope to be knee deep in equipment and fun soon!

Multiple Mikrotik's responding as one hotspot

Hello :) I have been reading about WDS and how to extend the coverage area of a wireless hotspot. I have successfully setup a hotspot and it has been running without fail for a couple of months now. I am looking to setup another in an area that will require more than one mikrotik to get the best cov...
