Maximum no. of PPPoE sessions

Hi, Is there a theoretical limit on the number of PPPoE client sessions that can be initiated from a RB1000. I have a test configuration consisting of RB1000, Juniper ERX 310 as a LAC and a Cisco 7204 as a LNS. I have no problem in establishing the first 14 PPPoE session's, but on the 15 PPPoE sessi...

Bonding and Link Monitoring

I have a test configuration using 2 MT v3.25 connected directly via 3 Ethernet ports which are bonded configured for balanced round robin mode. In this test configuration, I have arp enabled for link monitoring. Running bandwidth test, the behaviour is as expected - each link carrying 33 Mbps of tra...

Queuing & Winbox

I have configured HTB on a bonded interface and under certain conditions, in Winbox the queue change colour from Green to Red. No packets are dropped during this time. Stopping the traffic causes the queue to change colour to Green Any idea on when a Queue is RED, what it means and how I can investi...

RADIUS Authentication

Need help on PPPoE authentication using FreeRADIUS. MT sends authentication request to FreeRADIUS; FreeRADIUS returns back with a Access-Accept response, however MT terminates the PPP session with the following error - authentication failed because of RADIUS timeout. Using Wireshark and Packetsniffe...

L2TP CHAP Authentication Response

I am in the middle of testing L2TP tunnel between Router OS 4.3 with our service providers Juniper router. The sequence is as follows: 1. Juniper send SCCRQ message which includes a challenge AVP. 2. The MT responds with a SCCRP with response. 3. The Juniper responds with Stop CCN message and thus t...

PPP Secret

Looking for suggestions on the following: 1. Is it possible to disable authentication for PPP? Tried it through Winbox and Router OS requires atleast one authentication type to be configured. 2. Anyone out there tried configuring a secret with wild-card name? I understand Cisco and Juniper support t...

Re: ICMP packet prioritization

Thanks - I agree from a forwarding perspective. More specifically, is Router OS architecture single or multiple threaded with priority support. For example, if the OS gets ICMP packet, SNMP request and OSPF routing update at the same time, which one will it process first or is it on first come first...

ICMP packet prioritization

When Router OS performs packet processing, are ICMP ping packets prioritized higher or lower or same as other packet traffic.

Cisco/Juniper LAC and RB1000 LNS

Has anyone tried using RB1000 as a LNS with Cisco/Juniper as the LAC?

Using BCP bridging (PPP tunnel bridging) configured on 2 RB1000, I can get PPPoE tunnel working into a L2TP tunnel. The specific question, has anyone got RB1000 LNS based on BCP bridging working working with a Cisco/Juniper LAC.

Jumbo Frame support for L2TP Server on a RB1000

I have a Router Board 1000 running OS 3.3 and tried to configure Jumbo Frame on L2TP server. Winbox came back with a message that for Max MTU the supported values were between 512-1500 bytes. Ether2 and Ether3 are configured as 1Gbps full-duplex. The following link gives the impression Jumbo frames ...

VRRP bug?

Not sure if this is known bug with VRRP. I am currently using Router 3.3 OS and performed the following test. 1. Configured CC1 (Master) and CC2 (Backup) in pre-emption mode. CC1 and CC2 both connected to a local LAN 2. Pulling LAN cable on CC1, CC2 changes state to Master & Running. Re-insertin...

Help with L2TP and PPPoE scripting

I am familiar with MT, however new to scripting. I have taken the time to look through posting in this space and am really impressed how 10 line scripts have been condensed into 1 line. I am trying to develop a script to create 200 client L2TP tunnels between Client-Server and then round robin throu...

3.27 Bonding question

Router 1 and 2 are directly connected on ether port 3 & 4. On both routers, a bonded interface is created by combining port 3 & 4 and a IP address assigned to the bonded interface. Ping from either router works in this configuration. Switching the bonded interface from physical ports to VLAN...
