Well, I decided to order a new mini-pci radio card.
I hope it will work.

Compex got the antenna connectors backwards on the cards. The 'main' connector has the best performance, but you will need to select antenna B in the software to make it work.

Figured it out... apparently the RB133, cat5, PSU or something is coming up short for power. Reducing the maximum txpower of the XR2 to "14" (from default) appears to have fixed the problem for now.

Not yet, but it will have to occur in the next few days as I'm getting tired of dealing with the problem. We'll end up replacing the unit with an RB133 with a new sr9 and 8602 thats been properly tested as assembled.

Hmm, then the queue settings did not make any changes to the ping (56 byte) times when uploading (1500 byte packets, at full line rate) over the connection... Very weird. I'll investigate more in the morning (2AM here)

Have the users tried adjusting ack timeout using 'athctrl -d [distance in meters]' yet?

If adjusting it doesn't help, get them to monitor athstats (athstats 1), and paste a few minutes worth of results to pastebin. Also have them try madwifi-old and see if they have similar issues.

Enabling periodic recalibration fixed it

Setting 'periodic recalibraton' to 'enabled' from 'default' seems to have corrected the issue...

I'm guessing it wasn't running the thermal recalibration on the cards. The issue consistantly occured within a few hours after sunrise...
