Winbox Disconnects in Vista / Win7

This is driving me crazy. We use MT units all over our WISP network, over 300 in use now. We contstantly use Winbox and our service techs are running Windows Vista Business. A few weeks back on tech reported that he could no longer use winbox for more that about a minute. It then disconnects. We can...

Re: diversity Rx Tx selection

You are correct. The higher gain antenna (the parabolic) will hands down make a difference. The idea of splitting your RX/TX is also a good one. I can say that I have tried this many times and theoretically it seems like it would work. In all my experiments I found that combining the signals from se...

Re: interferance reduction

Interference. This could be a large chapter in a book to explain what can be done about it. I operate a small ISP in the southern Oregon area. In approximately 200 square miles we have over 115 ISM band transmitters. Many operating above FCC limits. I cant go into detail however here is a run down o...

Re: Bridge Firewall

you can fully setup a transparent bridge to perform just about anything. the MT OS is the absolute most powerfull out there to do this hands down. I have used the magle rules along with all the firewall rules many times in a transparent bridged configuration many times. In most cases I find that I a...

Re: Intermittent backhaul link - help needed badly!

Jason, provide more info if you could. You say the connectoin goes bad? How your sigmal level goes low? the CCQ drops? or is everthing look fine just poor latency or throughput? Could you clarify the following.. When things are working well, what is your CCQ latency and throughput, when its not work...

Create a Queue from an address list

I was hoping someone here may have an idea on how to create q's from an address list. Let say I have an address list with four IPs in it that I have used other MT rules to create. Is there a script out there that could create a simple Q for each of those IP address I have in the Address List? Thank ...

RB500 and 3.14 = 100% CPU

I have two units side by side on one of my mountain sites. One unit is a RB500 (model RB532a) running firmware 2.17 the other is a RB500R5 (model RB532a as well) running firmware 2.17 as well. When i upgrade the standard RB500 to 3.14 the CPU utilizatoin hits 100% the moment the wireless interface i...

Re: Entesive data loss every 10 min.

The "extensive data loss" is just that. Data loss. Without more information I can only give you a few directions. 1. Make sure your channel bandwidth is not outside the transmit rate. 2. Look for noise entering your channel with. For example 00:15:6D:53 is a Umb card. I assume this is 2.4?...

Re: Mark-connection vs mark-packet

Basically it all boils down to packet processing. Taking all the HTB and other router processes out of the picture for the moment and just focusing on the firewall processing section of the MT OS it comes down to how many packets can the MT process per second. The more the better. The part some peop...

XR3

The current frequencys supported by this card are in the "FCC testing" phase (cannot be used commercially and require a testing license)The 3650-3700 MHz band is in the process of being availalbe to WISPs. This is an exciting prospect. However the exact contentions for using this band have...

Diffrences between Packet and Connection Marks

To answer this question correctly, it largely depends on your use of the mark. For example, if you are using the mark to propigate a particular firewall chain then a connectoin mark would suffice, due to the fact that the firewall typically only deals with the initial connection (provided you have c...

Setup MT to pass VPN connections

Hello I am currently running MT 2.9.14. I am using NAT to connect my local lan through the MT to the internet. I want to make sure I have everything setup correctly to pass IPsec VPN traffic through the MT from my local lan to the internet. I have customers that will be using VPN clients that need t...

Queue Tree vs Simple Q's

Hello all I would like to thank you for your help in advance. I have a simple question. I am trying to both limit bandwith and utilize traffic shaping with 2.9.14 I have read my butt off on these forums and read through the manual several times and I need to clarify one item. 1. If I create a simple...

Use of Amps

Just my two cents and seven years of working with complex ISM networks. You can use amps, you simply need to make sure you design the link properly. Let me explain wihtout getting to technical: Amps come with both a TX and RX gain. The TX or transmit is needed to reach out to your clients. This is w...
