Creating a "dirty" AP alongside default AP

I have a cablemodem with 2 ethernet ports, and I can receive up to 5 dynamic public IPs Port 1 is connected to my existing home network Port 2 is connected to a new hAP^2 that I'm using as a lab. On the hAP^2, what I would like to accomplish, is to create a virtual AP that is bound to the WAN port, ...

L2TP/IPsec vs OpenVPN speed tests

I decided to do some testing today while I had the time, and wanted to see if my results are typical for speed differences between IPsec and OpenVPN. I have 4 routers, all virtual machines on an esxi server test environment, with gigabit virtual networks. All virtual routers were running RouterOS x8...

Re: Cannot pass traffic across EOIP bridge?

Well, fixed the issue. After beating my head against the wall some more, I finally stumbled across this thread http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=54496 . All I had to do was set Promiscuous Mode to "accept" on the vSwitch properties, and voila, it's working like it should. So, moral...

Cannot pass traffic across EOIP bridge?

I'm trying to a setup a portable mikrotik box, to allow myself L2 connectivity to my LAN from remote networks. I have done this several years ago, but have lost the configs of how I set it up. Here's what I have so far. Router 1 - x86 ether1 - static public IP ether2 - no IP, connected directly to p...

Re: x86 and ethernet/port isolation

generated quite a bit of traffic across the network that ether2 is attached to, and still nothing showing on ether1. still weird, but, at least it's doing what I want right now.

x86 and ethernet/port isolation

I setup a small lab router on esxi with 2 ethernet ports. Ether1 - ip of 10.10.0.1/24 Ether2 - no ip address given, but attached to a busy network off the host machine I created a bridge with only Ether2 attached If I run torch on Ether1, I am seeing traffic from Ether2? Is there not a way to isolat...

RB922UAGS-5HPacD-NM as access point

I was looking around for anyone who had experience with the RB922UAGS-5HPacD-NM, but, nothing to be found. So, figured I'd add some info I came across. My intention was to build a dual-radio AP for my house. I am using an RB751, which works great, except on my mac equipment. Since Apple cripples 40m...

Re: RB751u-2hnd ethernet 1 gone bad?

I appreciate that. As inexpensive as they are though, I think I'll just purchase another, and use this one as a backup. It doesn't seem to be affecting the performance/stability of the router as long as I keep the port disabled.

Re: RB751u-2hnd ethernet 1 gone bad?

powered the router down for ~2 minutes, powered back on, and ethernet 1 still shows an active 10m full duplex link even without anything plugged into port 1.

I have setup the link to the wisp on ether2, and it works fine.

pretty sure i have a faulty ethernet 1 port at this point.

RB751u-2hnd ethernet 1 gone bad?

After an electrical storm (no direct hits taken), the router I setup for my parents at their house quit passing traffic to their wisp. Today, went to their house, and first thing I noticed that was odd, was that ethernet 1 was training up at 10m *full* duplex, to the wisp's equipment, which is 100M....

EoIP not passing all traffice

Can't figure this one out on my own, so, I'm hoping someone here can help out. What I'm trying to do, is to setup an EoIP link between my home RB750, and another RB750 (both running 6.1) at my office. Both have their own private subnets (for home/office device connectivity), and are currently connec...

OSX Mountain Lion and WPA2

Not sure if anyone else has come across this issue or not, but, after upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion, I noticed I could no longer connect to any APs. The only one I could connect to was one that was still using WEP (yeah, I know...). I'm almost %110 sure this is an OSX related issue, but, I finally ...

Re: Difference in Mastering Types?

There are two ways to collect information, SNMP or Router OS. Router OS is only supported by Mikrotik applications. SNMP is an open standard. You will want to use SNMP unless there is a specific reason you need ROS. what would be some reasons to use ROS over SNMP? Any differences in speed and packe...

I have an RB751 running 5.12, and I'm hitting this particular issue. I have a macbook and a mac mini, both connecting via wifi. If I want to vnc (or access anything remotely) from my macbook to my mac mini, I have to first log into the RB751 and ping the mac mini before the mac mini responds to anyt...
