Hotspot Rate Limit seems not to work in new MT version 3.22

For years I have had my hotspot "guest" user rates set to 22000/44000 and it all seemed to work just fine. Now I notice "guests" downloading at the full speed of the serving WAN of 1.9Mbps. Has the format changed? I am unable to find an explicit reference that addresses this ques...

How does MAC authentication for HOTSPOTS work?

I operate a WISP and I notice the MT RB433AH running OS 3.22 doing some authentication things I do not understand. Consider the following topology. RB433----hubAP ~~~~~~~~WET54gRadio-----ClientRouter--------ClientComputer In the above example, and with various client radios (WET54g/WET11/etc), somet...

Re: Routerboard RB433AH intermittantly stops operating

You are so right. The unit crashed again this week and I too could not find where the log was stored. I did make a supout file after the reboot (no access was possible following the crash), and sent it to MT. They recommended I update to 3.18 (now 3.19) which I have done. We are all hoping that will...

Re: Routerboard RB433AH intermittantly stops operating

Thanks.. I did find in the log setup the place to save CRITICAL and ERRORS, etc to disk. I set to save critical and errors to disk. Now.. My routerboard does not actually HAVE a disk so I assume that the logs of critical and error warnings go to flash. Is that right? Do these then appear in the LOG ...

Re: Routerboard RB433AH intermittantly stops operating

Does anyone have an answer?

Should I get an exchange on the hardware?

Is anyone else having the OS on a RB433AH just "stop running" intermittantly?

Thanks!

Routerboard RB433AH intermittantly stops operating

I have a two month old RB433AH operating as a hotspot controller. It is running on an UPS so power stability is not in question. Twice now, the routerboard system (running MT v3.1.5) has "halted" and quit processing data. When this happened, WinBox was not able to access the RB433AH from e...

"Strange" behaviour on MT ver 3.14 on RB433

I recently changed over to a RB433 and from an older 2.8.15 OS. Nominally all is now working fine on this HOTSPOT.. But I notice some unexpected phenomena. First my hardware setup: RB433---Cisco AP342----Cisco 342asBridge---WET54g------Client Computer. ...........Main AP.........Remote Bridge.....Cl...

Re: Testing Hotspot Speed and Resetting (ver3.1.3)

I tried clearing my test computer's entry in the hotspot ACTIVE list and now I am unable to automatically login via the MAC address (username and PW) in the hotspot user list. I now only see the hotspot manual login page which still works fine. I tried rebooting the router and that does not get back...

Testing Hotspot Speed and Resetting (ver3.1.3)

I have a HOTSPOT running on a 3.1.3 equipped routerboard. This hotspot offers one download speed for "guests" and a faster speed for registered users. I am attempting to test the router speed by logging in as a "guest" which should (and does) give me the lower speed. But then I w...

Re: IP binding: Public LAN to Hotspot LAN

I believe you are right. I think I have to set up a destination-NAT. And maybe more than that. Can anyone either give me an example of the needed commands or point me to an example? I cannot seem to find an example of this construct in the MT manual.

Thanks.

IP binding: Public LAN to Hotspot LAN

I am not sure I understand IP Binding in the MT 3.1.1 router OS. 1) If I Put a HOTSPOT side IP address (eg: 10.40.50.200) into Hotspot/IP Bindings/ in the ADDRESS entry window, select SERVER=all and TYPE=BYPASSED, is this the setup to a) allow a device with address 10.40.50.200 to access through the...

ether1, ether2 ID changes when system moves to new computers

I am in the process of updating the HARDWARE on three 4 year old MT HotSpot systems which are (were) currently running 2.8.15. I got the first unit "up and running" but encountered the problem that when I loaded 2.8.15 on the new machine and installed the old backup, all of the etherX IDs ...

Sorry.. I left out one fact. A program called "Direct Update" in the mail server is keeping the IP address updated properly in the DNS server. So when a user executes a call to mail.coffeehouse.com, the DNS server will return the proper IP address which is the EXTERNAL IP address of the lo...

Re: Migration from OLD computer to NEW computer> Backup Fails

Thanks for the information. It looks as if the basic hotspot is now working but some of the special routing features are "broken". I guess they were casualties of the etherX changes as well. So, are you saying that even with the latest (3.1.x) versions that it is still impossible to make &...

Feature Request: Easier MAC entry in hotspot and other place

When input a series of MAC addresses, must put in colon between each number pair as 00:60:08:20:85:E3. When typing in large numbers of these into hotspot automatic MAC login, it is tedius. I agree that the MACs are easier to read with the colon punctuation. How about making the input parser accept M...

One easy way is to go to WinBox>IP>Hotspot and put in the client's MAC address as name and password in the USER setup. Be sure to activate the "auth MAC and auth MAC login" (or something like that) in settings for the hotspot on this same hotspot page. You can also use cookies if you want.

You do not say if you are willing to use the hotspot feature or not. If you DO use the hotspot feature, you can set up multiple user profiles. Each profile can include up and down bandwidth limiting settings. To automatically login to the hotspot, users can use a) cookies, or b) MAC address.
