Re: Help with Routing

Perhaps if you make that red link between RB1 and RB2 (use a small subnet between them for routing, say 10.2.2.0/29 or so) the situation will be somewhat simpler. If you then remove the link between RB2 and the switch (and RB2's 192.168.1.125 address of course), the asymmetric routing will be gone. ...

Re: A little help with routed and switched ports please.

Which provider are you using, Jeroen? I'm connected to KPN myself and have done away with their equipment except for the POTS function. Both internet and IPTV are done through my RB2011. KPN uses vlans to seperate the traffic though - 4 for IPTV, 6 for internet and 7 for POTS/SIP. By the way, I thin...

Re: Help with Routing

/ip firewall add chain=forward dst-address=10.5.50.0/24 src-address=192.168.1.0/24 /ip firewall add chain=forward dst-address=192.168.1.0/24 src-address=10.5.50.0/24 That should do the trick, I think. Same thing if you want RB1 to allow traffic to itself, just substitute 'input' for 'forward' in the...

Re: A little help with routed and switched ports please.

You can make a new virtual ethernet interface that acts as a dhcp client so it gets a public ip address (you might want to check the 'default route' option for this interface). You should then be able to use this interface to masquerade to/from. Your vlan 10 bridge interface can then act as the gate...

Re: Help with Routing

OK so right now. I have to config as displayed above. But it does not work, If i attempt to ping a pc on network A from network B it doesn't work. however when i add the route for 0.0.0.0/24 i can ping RB1 (192.168.1.1). The route you're quoting here should be 0.0.0.0/0 (meaning all the internet, n...

Re: static DHCP not working

Sob, thanks for that tip! That's the bit of clue that I was looking for! Apparently some devices don't send their hostname or client-id to a DHCP server. To think I've done DHCP for over 10 years and yet I've never run into that, mostly because I didn't use that option before, as I realize now :) Th...

Re: Help with Routing

The routes look ok. Are you sure network B isn't allowed to browse the internet at all? It's only allowed to reach network A and nothing else? Remember, many games (since that's what you mention) need access to the internet so people can connect to multiplayer game rooms and such. If they do need to...

Re: Help with Routing

No, you don't have to masquerade, I assumed you were already doing that since it's listed in the picture. You can just route normally without masquerading. If traffic is going from network A to network B the ip packets will have the destination ip in them and the router will know where to send the p...

Re: Help with Routing

Why do you need the second RB? It's not possible to plug the WUG AP into the first RB? That would simplify things a bit. As for the routing: I'm assuming that you're using the 10.5.50.1 address on RB2 as the gateway for the clients through DHCP. That would mean that, together with the masquerading i...

Re: static DHCP not working

No, it doesn't. The active client id is basically the mac address prepended with a '1:'. How would that impact things? Again, with a general purpose linux server serving the dhcp leases, this used to work, but maybe it's relevant in the RouterOS implementation in some way that I'm unaware of. And no...

Re: static DHCP not working

Hi Don, thanks for trying to help. I'm not having trouble setting up the router - I do that for a living, though with Cisco gear :) The weird bit is that static DHCP that just won't work. I'll post what I have below: # apr/17/2013 21:55:45 by RouterOS 6.0rc11 # software id = RXQ6-HYM7 # /ip dhcp-ser...

Re: static DHCP not working

Hi donjames, thanks for taking the trouble to reply! Sadly, I don't know how this would help me. I've connected the RB2011 to the internet without much trouble at all (otherwise I'd not be able to post this :) ). It's just that the assignment of a static IP address through the DHCP server on the RB2...

Re: DHCP lease without success!!! shoot me now.

Are you sure it's a /23 network? 192.168.50.0/24 and 192.168.53.0/24 can't possibly be in the same /23 network... For them to be in the same network it would have to be a /22 at least.

[SOLVED] static DHCP not working

Hi, (I've searched the forums for a couple of days now without stumbling across anything significant looking so I'm posting to find some help.) I've come across a weird issue where my configured static DHCP assignments are not working on some interfaces. When I change the static-only with an appropr...
