The wireless algorithms are optimizing the throughput, therefore it will (should not) help speed by changing these settings. If you change the basic rates support to higher rates, then you can lose important link management frames -- which will really slow everything down.

The Nstreme in v2.9rcX now has a dynamic feature which removes the 'high ping' sometimes that could be seen in a link that had allot losses. Also, the rc2 has an improvement for systems where the CPU was the bottleneck. I suggest trying with the newer version.

I think the most popular new Dlink cards use the VT6105 Ethernet chip -- though they have a Dlink part number printed on the chip. This is the same chip we use in the RB44 and RB500 and RB564. The VT6105 (or Dlink version) or the Intel Ethernet chips are the best.

You may have local interference on just one antenna. It could be caused by some reflections on the rx signal or a local omni AP that is messing up only one side as the other side can't hear it.
