This is now sorted. I ran a perl script that extracted the database username and password, which I entered into my dude after importing the db. Everything is back again!

gsandul - you rock! With the assistance of your script I was able to migrate my 4.0b3 database to a new machine, after days of tearing my hair out.

Ok, I tried copying the contents of the backup directly to the local storage and while it's worked for my MIBs and images, there's no sign of my probes, functions, network maps, charts etc. Where does the dude.db file get copied to? I suspect that that's the issue here. It's now on a Win10 box, btw....

But how to import settings generated on another pc? I've tried it and it tells me "invalid username and password".
