RB493AH switch problem?

Hello, everyone. I've been having RB493AH board in my home config for a long time and had no problems with it until I bought LG Smart TV. The TV is connected by cable to the router (cat. 6). As I don't have any cable antenna at my home and unfortunately can't have any, the only way for me to watch t...

Re: Winbox bugs

Had the same issue with WinBox running latest ROS 5.5 & 5.6.
Guess what was the root cause? It was the TeamViewer application's feature "QuickConnect". Once I disabled it - the issue went away.
I guess this might help to someone.

Re: ovpn on ros 5.6 not working?

I can confirm that OVPN on ROS 5.6 is completely broken. I did read all the WiKi's and forums around the web and I was struggling hard to get it working. In ROS logs it showed only: ovpn, info TCP connection established from and the OVPN GUI in Windows showed that the connection was reset and that's ...

it's because Mikrotik doesn't support multicast and netbios uses those packets to discover each other.
the only solution is to use wins server or domain controller.

HDD standby time

Is there an option to turn off hard disk after some period of inactivity? I couldn't find this in manual or in winbox. I know other linux boxes do this, m0n0wall, for example. My hard disk is too loud and i want to switch it off after mikrotik booting, anyone knows any way to do this? My bios doesn'...

Spent a couple of hours solving this issue. Now everything works. But i think it's very bad that VPN connection goes without any encryption. Future versions of RouterOS should include user manager with MS-CHAP encryption.

Really transparent proxy

I want to make Mikrotik's built-it proxy server fully transparent for web-sites. When i browse the internet with webproxy (or webproxy-test) sites can see the HTTP_VIA and HTTP_FORWARDED_FOR values. The sites know my internal IP adress and that i'm using a proxy server. But i want it to be fully tra...

I changed the chain in firewall mangle to "output" and it started catching proxy packets. I made limit-at values for all my ques. But still i have 100 ms pings while downloading 1 file and 500 ms with 2 files. It's awful. With m0n0wall i had normal pings always, even if i had 100 downloads...

And 1 more addition: If i change the mangle chains to prerouting, the prioritization starts to work a bit, with http download i get 100 ms pings. But when the http transparent proxy is working, no matter what chain i use, prerouting, postrouting, forward, etc - the traffic gets unprioritized and i g...

I searched all the forum, but everywhere is discussed a download AND upload limit. I need only upload queue. The queue works if i set the max-limit for about 1 Kbits. In another way, that packet priority is just being ignored. But the p2p priority works ok, when i start DC++ and see a large amount o...

QOS for Upload

Recently i started using RouterOS 2.9.6, everything is nice, i like the system. Before it i used m0n0wall and smoothwall, they are great, but i needed more functionality. So, i installed the system and tried to prioritize upload traffic. I have a cable connection with 1000 kbits donwstream and 400 k...
