Re: Feature Request:UEFI Support

UEFI works with Supermicro X10SLL-F.
Would you mind detailing the steps you took to make RouterOS work with UEFI?

Feature Request: container host (e. g. Docker host) instead of MetaROUTER

As MetaROUTER incurs significant overhead, I propose to supplement or replace it with a possibility to run Linux containers (see e. g. Docker, LXC, systemd-nspawn) inside RouterOS. This is a very easy way to extend RouterOS functionality with no or minimal software overhead.

6.40rc11 — IPsec peers can now be specified with DNS names, but what about policies?

Hi folks, In the 6.40rc11 changelog we have this entry: ipsec - allow to specify remote peer address as DNS name (CLI only); That is, it is now possible to say: > /ip ipsec peer set <N> address=<DNS name> But if I say a DNS name for sa-dst-address=, the CLI gives me an error: > /ip ipsec policy set ...

I'd +1 this feature as well, need it for conditional DNS forwarding too.

Re: RB2011 unsuccessful overclocking (doesn't boot up) — recovering configuration?

OK, I solved this myself by pure luck. For anyone interested: forcing backup bootloader did the trick. According to RB2011 manual, to force the backup bootloader, you need to hold the RESET button while powering up the device (and release it shortly after you see "routerboot configuration"...

RB2011 unsuccessful overclocking (doesn't boot up) — recovering configuration?

Hello. I have a RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN unit that is stuck at "starting kernel" after an overclocking attempt. Unfortunately, I do not have the Cisco-style serial console cable to reset CPU speed in the RouterBOOT menu, and I do not have the configuration backups (which would allow me to reforma...

Re: Need help configuring Site-to-Site IPsec when one of the peers is behind a NAT

Looks like I solved this. In the "remote" peer, I created a non-template policy with sa-dst-address=<"main" address> and tunnel=yes : [admin@remote] /ip ipsec> /ip ipsec export # jan/22/2017 01:00:48 by RouterOS 6.39rc15 # software id = IDVP-LT14 # /ip ipsec proposal set [ find d...

Need help configuring Site-to-Site IPsec when one of the peers is behind a NAT

Hello. (...I'm relatively new to networking, so please bear with me...) I am trying to build an IPsec (no L2TP) tunnel between two networks with Mikrotik routers in NAT mode. One of the routers ("main") has a public IP, while the other one ("remote") is behind a carrier NAT itsel...

Re: wAP ac — antenna pattern & best practices for indoor placement

Multiple APs is the only option. So, I've got that AP and its 5 GHz radio covers the whole flat easily under following conditions: AP being placed on the wall roughly in the center of the flat; 5745/20-Ceee, tx power not limited (that channel is rated for 30 dBm here in Russia); QCA6174, Intel 8260...

Yes, it is fine. The units run quite hot, but work fine even in ambient temperatures 65C+
OK, thanks for clarifying that.

Re: Issue CAPsMAN controlling 5Ghz radios on 6.38 and 6.39rc

Same issue here (RB2011 as controller, wAP ac as AP). Moreover, my QCA6174 card consistently gets a firmware crash when exposed to such AP; it took me over an hour to understand what's going on... Just set them manually. /caps-man interface set YOUR-AP rates.vht-supported-mcs=mcs0-9,mcs0-9,mcs0-9 (r...

wAP ac heats up to 60 degrees Celsius in idle (and >70 under load) — is this OK?

So, I got myself a wAP ac. To make its 5 GHz radio cover the whole flat, I did not limit its tx power output and configured it to use the 5745 MHz channel (which is rated for 30 dBm here in Russia). The 2.4 GHz radio is turned off (my pre-existing RB2011 has a a more powerful transmitter) and the CP...

Re: CAPsMAN 5GHz wireless channel problems

Still not fixed with 6.38, specifying anything above "20" makes it say "unsupported channel" or "no supported band". Any comments? You're not supposed to use a bigger channel. You use 20MHz channels, and use the "extension channel" setting for configuring whe...

this problem will be fixed in the next release candidate version. Still not fixed with 6.38, specifying anything above "20" makes it say "unsupported channel" or "no supported band". Any comments? My devices are RB2011 (CAPsMAN + 2.4GHz CAP) and wAP ac (5GHz CAP). The ...

How to execute custom AT commands on a connected modem?

Hello, it is well-known that RouterOS is able to query a running modem for certain predefined readings and information via the `/interface ppp-client info` command. These readings include "signal-strength" (RSSI) and "frame-error-rate" (BER, I guess, but I do not know of any 3G m...

The wAP radiates 100% spherical, there is no difference how you mount it.
Understood, thanks.

Re: wAP ac — antenna pattern & best practices for indoor placement

do a site survey every site and every ap are different The "coverage" is a myth. You are not spreading anything, you are trying to estimate an area where your clients will be able to clearly distinguish the signal of the AP from the noise and from where they can clearly transmit to the AP...

Re: wAP ac — antenna pattern & best practices for indoor placement

Multiple APs is the only option.
If so, then how can I estimate the coverage range of a single AP? (The remaining questions still hold.)

wAP ac — antenna pattern & best practices for indoor placement

Hello, I'm going to buy a single wAP ac as an upgrade to my existing RB2011 router. I'm living in a ~150 m^2 flat (4 rooms total); there will be at most two walls between the desired AP placement and the clients. I could not find any antenna pattern plots for this device, except that vague "Ant...
