the AR5416 802.11n chipset is outdated and doesnt support Radar detect in 5 ghz band which is required for europe. this is a hardware issue, which has lead to the big delays with the release and availability of the XSPAN chipsets during spring/summer last year. in last quarter last year was the AR9001 XSPAN chipset release as replacement for the 1st generation AR5008 chipset ( AR5416).

there are 2x newer atheros chipsets out now , AR9001 as dual chip solution and the 3rd generation XSPAN chipsets AR92xx as singel chip solution ...

both new chipsets are not supported by the opensource linux driver madwifi .... and will never be - well this doesnt matter for mikrotik os, since i guess that mikrotik got a Atheros carrier license, which include all sourcecode needed.

currently the atheros carrier license include support for all new XSPAN chipsets - stability is another thing and still a big issue with these driver from atheros ...
