low bandwidth on wireless bridge

Sat Jan 05, 2008 6:52 pm

hi all, recently i have tried to set up a bridge network using 3 routerboard

A (AP) <----> (station pseudobridge) B (AP) <----> (station pseudobridge) C

A : RB333 + 1 wlan card. Signal -53 with 54 Mbps transmit and received bandwidth
B : RB333 + 2 wlan card. Signal -54 to A and -69 to C, both got 54 mbps transmit and received
C : RB512 + 1 wlan card. Signal -70 with 54 mbps transmit and received bandwidth

When i tried bandwidth test from A to B, i got 24 mbps, from B to C, i got 24 mbps. But when i tried from A to C, i only got 12 mbps (half of the speed)

I bridge all the device on A, B and C. Is there any configuration that could possible get higher overall bandwidth? from A to C.

Thank you

Best regards,
Budiarto

Try to change frequency like this:

A - B (2412)
B - C (2462)

It work for me and now I have same speed from A to C through B.

Greetings!

-70db on the last unit is low signal. I bet when it starts talking, the bandwidth drops. Most wifi cards show -70 as the lowest signal strength they can receive at 54M with g or a mode.

And, as the last response suggested, insure the two bridge frequencies are separated as far as practical.

EDIT: Bear in mind that this is a two-way conversation between these wifi cards. Even though you are receiving the AP at -70db, that does not insure the AP is receiving your signal at -70db. If you have a "standard" wifi card in your laptop, it may transmit at as low as 35mw. My APs transmit at 200mw. So if you are receiving my AP at -70db, it may not receive any signal from you. And it is to the lowest speed the conversation drops.
