RouterOS Default Configuration startup window missing

Thu Apr 25, 2024 7:10 pm

Hello, I need help getting the default configuration. I did complete a full format/reset using NetInstall that finished successfully last night. I also did Reset Configuration from WinBox GUI today.

I changed my mind and decide I want to start from the Default Configuration. Where I get 192.168.88.1 IP already setup, and maybe a basic firewall configuration.

Screen shot of what I cannot seem to get my router to display. (Maybe NetInstall, in formatting, erased it?)

Thanks.

Push and hold reset button for, generally, ~7 seconds while plugging it in (i.e. until, generally, USR light blinks). That will get you back to the default configuration stored.
See https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/Reset+Button

One note: If you replace the default with netinstall, well, then, you do need to use netinstall to replace default again.

I've tried obtaining text file from link below, and copy paste to script in WinBox. Reboot Mikrotik router, but still IP address is 0.0.0.0, quickset is blank.

You can also get into the router via winbox and MAC address, which seems you have.

So use:
 /system/reset-configuration no-default=no keep-users=yes
Keep in mind... not all router have a default configuration, or 192.168.88.1 exists only on one port without DHCP. Only the home/CPE-like routers have the default firewall.

Hmm. I hadn't noticed they had the config now in the docs. For those, you'd need netinstall to replace the default configuration... but still how well it work still depend somewhat on the router.

What model are we talking about here?

Thanks! Your first suggestion worked, for a moment. But, after I move mikrotik router to WAN and plug 2 ethernet cables into mikrotik. one desktop and one to internet coming into house, the router no longer has that IP already setup. 192.168.88.1 is gone. But it was there when I was directly plugged from desktop win11 to mikrotik router with one ethernet cable.

Is WinBox supposed to keep showing me the MAC address device and a 2nd item in the WinBox list, 0.0.0.0?

all Youtube videos, only show one item in WinBox list, when first opening WinBox to connect to something.

This is hap ac2 router, bought round year 2021.

Export your configuration by going to Terminal, then use ":export file=config.rsc" and download config.rsc from Files section in winbox/webfig.

Post that here, perhaps ether1 is not being set as a WAN port is my guess at what's going on.
