NetMetal ax temperature at sunny outdoor location

Mon May 06, 2024 4:22 pm

Hi! We just started learning about the new NetMetal ax and we got afraid of the heating of the case during summer when it is installed in a sunny location. MikroTik says the tested ambient temperature is -40°C to 70°C. Is this the outdoor temperature, measured in the shadow at a height of 2m?
An ambient temperature of 30°C in southern Germany could heat up a black box up to 70°C ... and higher temperatures up to 90°C in southern Spain ... can we then install the black NetMetal ax facing direct sun light or do we need to use some sort of sunlight shield and install it north-facing?

It's a fair question. The AX chips seem "hotter" generally. They don't list weight in specs..., but suspect it has more metal than older one to compensate.

It's a pity that NetBox 5 AX only operates at 5GHz. Otherwise, it would probably be a better choice because of the white plastic case.

While I get aesthetics of black, does seem like asking for trouble with AX chips...

LOL. I made my own list of complaints: viewtopic.php?t=207386 — forgot that one.
