Ghost ether interface????

Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:05 pm

I have a rb133c CPE with ros3.4 in a simple routed set-up with a handful anti virus and anti-abuse rules and nat masq.
The router worked for a week without problems, then fell away according client, came back a couple of times but since two days completely not working.
Checked the wireless side, no problem. The unit is poe power fed and that is no problem. The unit works fine, so it gets the power. Checked physically all cables, tried cable in other units, all fine. No cable problem.
But I cannot reach the unit over Ethernet. Even the Ethernet connection light doesn't come up. (on the laptop. On the board cannot see yet, have to take it out of a mast for that.)

What can be the problem? The interface window in winbox shows the ether1 interface has no link and is not running........ ehhh, shit it suddenly has activity again!!! What is going on here, nobody touches it! It is active again!

Anybody can shine a light on this? Or do I call the ghost busters?

Looks like it had lightning strike or ESD on Ether1. You should send it to RMA.

Well, haven´t had a thunderstorm for weeks, so that can´t be the problem.
Regarding ESD, I have 70 same units at relative close range (all within 750 meters of each other) in an urbanisation, all same CPE, al same way of fitting, all same type of house.
None of my antenna´s is earthed since this is very complicated by itself and in the 4 years working will a wireless network never got ESD problems.

The unit worked all night last night but now this morning it showed again ¨no Link¨ and its dead.

Problem solved. Put new jacks on both end of the cable. Working fine since.
But strange that the antenna has poe but showing there is no link?
Normally when I have jack problems it is the power not getting to the unit that tells me probably the rj-45 jack needs to be replaced.
