Extreme low TX Power for HAP AX3 2.4G Band

Mon Jun 10, 2024 7:56 am

Hi,
I purchased a new HAP AX3. But I see the TX Power for the 2.4G Interface is going max upto 16dbm. Changed country settings but same. This has restricted the coverage area for the device. Attached the Wireless Status Image. Sharing WiFi Config below::

Any inputs how can I increase it? As per device specs it supports 27 dbm. Similar low Tx for 5GHz band also happened but after changing country to Unites States the TX for 5G Band is now 28 dbm.
/interface wifi channel
add band=5ghz-ax disabled=no name=5G skip-dfs-channels=all width=20/40/80mhz
add band=2ghz-ax disabled=no name=2G skip-dfs-channels=all
/interface wifi security
add authentication-types=wpa-psk,wpa2-psk,wpa3-psk disabled=no name=5G
/interface wifi configuration
add channel=5G country="United States" disabled=no mode=ap name=5G security=5G ssid="Srijit's Home Network - 5G"
add channel=2G country=India disabled=no mode=ap name=2G security=5G ssid="Srijit's Home Network"
/interface wifi
set [ find default-name=wifi1 ] channel=5G comment="WLAN 5G" configuration=5G configuration.mode=ap disabled=no security=5G security.authentication-types=wpa2-psk,wpa3-psk .ft=yes .ft-over-ds=yes
set [ find default-name=wifi2 ] channel=2G comment="WLAN 2G" configuration=2G configuration.mode=ap disabled=no security=5G security.authentication-types=wpa2-psk,wpa3-psk .ft=yes .ft-over-ds=yes
/interface wifi access-list

At least you have to have both radios use the same country code. What TX power are you expecting? Sure you want to use 40MHz bandwidth (which is decreasing the power that can be used in the frequency band you use? Isn't this the maximum due to regulations? I know there is a command that shows maximum tx power per frequency, you should check that for yourself.

interface/wifi/radio/reg-info country="India" 0
ranges: 2402-2482/20
            5170-5250/30
            5250-5330/24/dfs
            5490-5730/24/dfs
            5735-5875/30
interface/wifi/radio/reg-info country="United States" 0
ranges: 2402-2472/30
            5170-5250/30
            5250-5330/24/dfs
            5490-5730/24/dfs
            5735-5895/30
As stated India OR US, you can't use both.
So India for an AX3 is 16+4 antenna gain=20
And US would be 26+4=30

Re: Extreme low TX Power for HAP AX3 2.4G Band

Previously I had a old model of Mikrotik - RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN which gave good coverage but single band and got daamged due to lightning.

Currently changed 2.4 Country to Bermuda and TX power in status window increased to 27 and I think it is the highest for this device.
5Ghz Band is still on US Country config and TX Power is 28 for 5G Band.

Any other optimisation possible for this device?

Yes Buy the correct amount of equipment for your coverage needs, the wild west of routers has ended with WiFi 6
interface/wifi/monitor 0,1,2,3
                 state: running running running running
               channel: 5500/ax/Ceee 2412/ax 5180/ax/Ceee 2462/ax
      registered-peers: 3 0 2 0
      authorized-peers: 3 0 2 0
              tx-power: 22 14 18 15
    channel-priorities: 0:5500/ax/Ceee 0:2412/ax 0:5180/ax/Ceee 0:2462/ax
It will work much better, and you won't need to worry about a big fine or worse.

Which product are you using? It is 4X4 chains I guess. My Hap AX3 shows as below::
[admin@SB-CORE-RTR] > interface/wifi/monitor 0,1
                 state: running running
               channel: 5765/ax/eCee 2432/ax/Ce

      authorized-peers: 3 8
