10Gb connection

Sat Aug 03, 2024 9:21 pm

Hello,

I'd like to connect my home server to the 10Gb port of my CCR2004-16G-2S+PC router (https://mikrotik.com/product/ccr2004_16g_2s_pc). Is it possible? I've never used 10Gb network adapters. I'm thinking about ordering an Intel E810-XXVDA2 NIC (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... xvda2.html) and a connection cable like this: MikroTik XQ+DA0001 (https://mikrotik.com/product/xq_da0001). Will the configuration work? What configuration would you recommend?

No, what you describe won't do: NIC is SFP28, linked DAC is QSFP28 and CRS is SFP+. And all of them don't mix.

If you really want to spend more money on server's NIC (to have 25Gbps intetface), then you'll have to go with SFP28 module which can work at 10Gbps ... and a 10Gbps SFP+ module (for CRS) ... and appropriate fiber patch cord.

Or, alternatively, get a 10Gbps SFP+ NIC for your server and XS+DA0001 DAC.

According to MikroTik wired interface compatibility CCR2004-16G-2S+PC is compatible with XS+DA0001. Does that mean that the router will work with an Intel E810-XXVDA2 NIC using XS+DA0001? 10 Gb NICs seem outdated to me. The most recent Intel 10 Gb card I could find launched 2014: Intel X710-DA2. I suppose it can become discontinued soon. What do you think?

Dear vla328, just as an additional comment, maybe it will help you, I have a RB3011 UiAS-RM and a RB4011iGS+RM (both with SFP+). I have tested Cisco, Dell and 10Gtek SFPs with them (all 10G) and they work perfectly.

Thank you, martinpedros! I have ordered the NIC and the DAC. I'll try the configuration
