Low signal After one month

Thu Mar 20, 2008 4:27 pm

Hello everyone,
I wanted to report a problem that I have noticed with systems mikrotik and mini pci r52 rh52.
Installing stations mikrotik and rh52 cards, I noticed that after some time the signal goes down painfully. This until the replacing. When change everything back to normal another some time.

:( :( :?

yes omni antenna, at 10 dbi.

Is an abnormal situation after some time the MINI PCI-stops working on arrangements and has a low gain.

I try CM9, R52(H), some TP-LINKs...all lose power on omni, only WLM54(A)G (Compex) card works fine. Try that one...

This has been covered in the past, can't remember the thread title.

The quick of it, static buildup on the omni is blowing the diversity chip. Run a ground up the omni to about 2-3 inches above the top.

Hello Mr De Luca.

im really happy seeing a person from this forum that shares exactly the my name.

I´m from Brazil, my name is Vicente De Luca, and so is my dad´s name too.
Just for curiosity purposes, my grand father came from Italy (Malito, Cosenza) and his name was Vincenzo De Luca.
Really glad to see De Luca´s family working hard with IT, wireless, etc.

If you want to know me, my msn is vicentinho85@hotmail.com, it will be a pleasure to meet you.

best regards, and hope to have your problem solved!

Can you provide some pictures because i lost 6 cards already, all with same symptoms: after month or two card looses power, poor or no transmit power at all. All cards were r52h.

Thank you

You are looking for the famous "pom pom" thread ;-).

See here: http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9734. There's a picture in it, too ;)

I dont think its the omni problem , cause I had same problem with 3 R52H cards connected to a sector antenna , the same RB has another R52H connected to another sector still working for months !!!!! its not the antenna ...
my friends also suffer from that the R52H may loose its power suddenly !!!! sometimes so easily ..

the damaged R52H was connected to sectors and flat panels not connected to an omni ..

beside me and my friends have many omni's from different brands connected to XR2 , XR5 cards working great for months ..these omni's wasnt grounded or modified in any way !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just make sure that your coax connecting your antenna to the omni is grounded. If you are using LMR-400, they sell a ground kit for about $20. I ground the cable and lightning arrestor and haven't lost a single card to diversity since. I am also in a very high wind/thunderstorm area. I've seen the POM thing, but I really don't think it is necessary with proper grounding.

Also, if you use a XR2 card, they have electromagnetic discharge protection and they lack the fragile diversity switch that causes the problem.
