EVDO Network Cards

Wed Mar 26, 2008 8:34 pm

Which EVDO Network cards have been tested with Mikrotik?

I can see a few cards supported under the support list, but which have been tested with any US Cellular companies?

Then any help to configure them. :)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Do you know if any of the newer RouterBoard products will support PCMCIA. I know the RB230 does and think that product will work great for what I'm working on, but would like to go with the RB333 or larger series.

Thanks,

We currently don't plan to make devices with PCMCIA, but maybe USB in the future. RB230 is still available if you are interested

Can you add support for the KPC680?

If you need me to send this request else where, let me know.

I found 2 sites that basically say it uses the same drivers as the KPC650.

http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-usb@v ... 01218.html

and

http://anastasis.googlepages.com/kpc680 ... structions

Thanks for the support.

If I take a laptop and load ROS 3.6 on it with pccard from the supported list will MT find and configure it as an interface upon installation?

If yes does this mean I could take an old laptop and place it at a customer site and give them internet via a natted ROS router (the laptop)?

That would make a cool emergency fix if required...

you have to test it, but it could work. I remember some people having setups like that. But it will depend on the PCMCIA controller

my toshiba laptop ran RouterOS fine and used an evdo card okay.

What I don't understand is why all specialized support for each of these cards is being done? Don't they all just show up as standard USB controllers with downstream serial ports once they are inserted ? I know on the one i tried it showed up as a USB controller, and then serial ports hanging off that (all internally of course).

Normis,

Did I do the request for additional card support correctly. I think it would be great to have it in the next version :)

they do only if we tell them to. well i'm not a programmer, but it's not as automatic as you would want it to be

If your chosen EVDO card doesn't work, and is not listed here:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Supported_Hardware

Then make a supout.rif file with the card inside the routeros, and send it to support @ mikrotik dot com

I would welcome a chance to play with one..

I am currently using the 598U (sprint)..

The 4G from sprint is a composite device... (No drivers)

This new Sierra Wireless card may or may not be a "Composite device"..
If it is, then a driver is needed to control the power controller..
(That is the current issue with the Sprint 4G devices)

There are Linux drivers,
there are OpenSoruce and even working with basic functions (no advanced drivers like under windows, no sms messaging etc...).

Then they followed the 500 series construction... (GOOD !!)

The 4G cards used by Sprint, dont.. they require code to control the power controller (Per Franklin Wireless)
And Get this !! Franklin doesnt write the code !! (Driver) Sprint outsourced it to who knows who...
I havent been able to get a streight answer to this yet...

Nothing like wanting more clients for your net, but not letting them get there !!!

I have client beating down my door looking for 4G, but I cant get it for them, because I cant get a driver..

(They DONT) like the current 4G solutions !!..

They want RouterOS boxes !!

And the fun continues....
