vlan tagging

Sun Nov 24, 2024 8:59 pm

I am not sure if this is the correct forum, but here goes. I am in the market for a new WiFi Access Point. I want to have something that supports vlan tagging. I want to have at least 3 SSID/vlan networks to begin with, probably another or two later. I am trying to separate out my IoT devices and a Guest network from my main network. I currently run a mesh system with a main router and 2 satellites, because I have devices around a lake in back of my house in addition to a basement and 2 floors in the house. So I need a pretty big coverage area. Originally I had a single router and several devices had spotty or no connection. The current system does not support vlan tagging so I need to replace it.

Based on this simple information, which MikroTik product(s) should I consider. Do all MikroTik access points support vlan tagging? Is it based on the OS - is it RouterOS or something else. I am unfamiliar with the MikroTik product line so I am looking for help.

Thanks,
Mike

Honestly, and I know this is Mikrotik forum, and I "should be" recommending their products but IMHO go for TP-LINK or Ubiquiti APs. Much more user friendly if you are a beginner and if you want your wireless to work.

It's not that Mikrotik wireless is not working but oh boy... If you like to learn networking etc and you like to punish yourself and those who will use that WiFi then go for Mikrotik APs :D

Their WiFi is slowly getting better and better but... It's not I would recommend to a new user.
