PPPOE client problem...

Thu Mar 06, 2008 1:40 am

I have setup 2.9.27 ros, have two lan interface, lan is set as 10.0.0.1/24 and wan 192.168.100.25(as my ap is at 192.168.100.250, I use at my win station pppoe broadband connection to connect to my ISP at wirelees internet). I use virtual PC 2007. I can normaly ping my lan at 10.0.0.2, problem is with pppoe-out1 interface, it is only dialing, then terminating, i have enablem mschap, then only pap, have setuped the lan and wan interface, so pppoe is looking at wan , my mtu and mru are 1480, but still I cannot authentificate at my isp. I normally do from my win console.
Have I overlooked something?
Thanks in advance.

Hi ;
I will try to explain what to do for your MT setting as a pppoe client .
first the lan interface will be connected to your isp do not set it any ip , i think when you connect your pc to the ISP you see the client ip is 192.168.100.25 .
then we are going to add two thinks to the internet interface " the lan will be connected to the internet " .
1. go to the interfaces and then to the lan will be connect to the ISP , add a pppoe client provide it with your account information " username and password " , click on add default route and choose from alow the required protocols . personaly i am using all .
2. do not add any static route , it will be managed automatically .
3. to be sure that the server now connected to the isp and the internet , go to tools then ping the isp and the internet .
4. to allow the clients behind the MikroTik to use this connection you should setup the dns and the way they will connect to the internet if you are going to use pppoe as well or hotspot or just use it as router .also you should configure the firewall nat .
if you need any further information write again .
with best regard .

One more gotcha with pppoe clients. Make sure that you are natting through the pppoe-out interface and not the wlan card. That has gotten me a few times.

I think I narrowed the problem, i use Ovislink 1120 AP for wirelles connection to the ISP, and I have read somewhere that this AP will not allow pppoe through mikrotik. Has anyone done something like that?

Totally right I used this way and it was ok but the only problem iam still facing is that The PPPOE client not getting the DNS automatically in the Primary DNS field, but if i add a DNS manually the internet is working so i need to know how to obtain the DNS directly while the pppoe client is connected, in meanwhile when i connect using non PPPOE client connection let say an auto DHCP enabled internet, the DNS is getting obtained and filled in the Primary DNS field.

Thanks in advanced.
