Link fault - cable pairs SS and SOO what that means?

Thu Jan 30, 2025 10:40 am

Hello,
I was chasing ghosts in network for a while and replaced one switch in place that seemed problematic with Mikrotik switch. It says there is cable fault on port 5, so I guess it found our problem.
It also says in "cable pairs" column "__SS" and "_SOO" on port5 and port7 (please see attached picture) and I was not able to find anywhere what that means. My best guess is "_" is OK pair, "S" is short, "O" is open.
This would mean both cables in port 5 and in port 7 are faulty, is that correct?
Thank you
Regards
Martin

Without even checking the help docs i'd say:

S = Short
O = Open

With 4 pairs (4x2) in total so a __SS means the last 2 Pairs are shorted while _SOO means 1 pair is OK. 1 pair is shorted and 2 pairs are open.

Yes I'd say both cables are broken (cause of a short)
If you're lucky, the second one (or both) might come back to life with a bit of a wiggle
