Multicast UDP over Zerotier

Sat Feb 01, 2025 6:04 pm

Hey all,

I am looking for a way to send multicast UDP traffic over a remote VPN connection. From what I have looked at Zerotier provides this functionality. I've have Zerotier installed on my router. I have it on my phone. I've successfully made a connection into my LAN, can ping devices, etc. All good.

But I'm still not able to pass multicast traffic. I'm guessing there is some additional configuration either on the router or on the Zerotier portal. Would love any suggestions or tips from anyone.

Thanks!

Check out multicast UDP in the rules engine: https://docs.zerotier.com/rules/

I think the default rule do allow multicast, so if it's not your rules....

If RouterOS is bridging ZT interface to LAN, then you need to set "Allow Bridging" on the ZT controller side for the member.

If you're routing ZeroTier (like MT's docs show), then you may need an IGMP proxy to get multicast accross subnets.
