Overseas and Local Traffic

Thu Apr 24, 2008 4:58 pm

Hello. I am using User Manager in Mikrotik 3.7 and I have a question.
Is there any way to count different types of traffic, in my case Overseas and Local?
If not, is there any chance to do it with Mikrotik using any other way(Scripting maybe)?
I need to show in UM how much the client consumed Overseas and also local traffic.

It is not possible with User-Manager, but it possible with mangle and queues to segregate local and overseas traffic. Then use SNMP to monitor queues, which are responsible for both types of traffic.

sergejs is there any posibility that this functionality(diferrent traffic types in UM) will be included in the next releases?
I will be able to monitor both queue tree and queue simple?

Wait, why do you need to complicate simple things ?
You can use SNMP or even 'tool graphing' and get nice graphs without User-Manager intervention [and provide these graphs to your customers] !

sergejs i have to show to the customer how much both Local and Overseas traffic he had used.
I was analysing the possibility to implement this in UM, using it as a RADIUS server, because I like UM for it's integrity with MT( the combination is very powerfull =) ) . I want to make a stable billing system, so right now I'm thinking of possible ways.
Also I am thinking of:
1) netflow+netams(open source billing)
2) snmp+"some software"

The first variant can show both local and overseas traffic by using a prefix list of local ips.

Do you think I am complicating things? =)
Maybe you can give me a good advice on this?

Well, you have queues for local traffic and overseas, isn't it ?
If you do not have you can create two queues without limit, but queue trough which is going local and overseas traffic.

Queue has SNMP data, you can use graphs, that will display average rate for each queue and give it to customer trough HTTP,

sergejs Yes I do, but I'm using PCQ shaper to minimize the cpu load. So I made in Queue Tree only queues to groups of users(per tariff plan). I do not have queues for each customer, because 600 PPPoE Users*4 mangle rules is 2400 Mangle Rules and it will load any cpu to 100%

I guess I'll stick to netflow and netams.
Can I request different "types of traffic" feature for a future release of UM?

I believe such feature will not be added in User-Manager. It could be possible only within router configuration.
