Viratual AP manual

Sat Apr 26, 2008 3:21 pm

Where can i find a simple example for creatinga a virtual AP?
i want my wlan1 to be in station mode and then create a virtual acces point for the hotspot.

I created one virtual AP, but when i scan with my laptop for networks it doesnt find it.

Edit: when i put the wlan1 in station mode then the virtual AP doesnt work.

but when i put the wlan1 in AP bridge mod, then the virtual AP works.

Any help?

thank you

Greetings!

There is not a lot to it.
Did you set the master-interface=wlan1 (or whatever interface)?
Did you enable the VAP interface?
Did you put a DHCP server on it?

The wiki is a little shy on some procedure examples.

Thank you for your answer

yes i did that, but still not working.

I also tried adding the VLAN (dont know if i did it correctly) but it also didnt work.
Is it possible to have the Wlan1 in station mode, and then the Virtaul AP in AP mode?
because the Virtul AP works fine when wlan1 is in AP bridge mode.
But when i put wlan1 to station mode, the VAP has no more signal.

No. That is the challenge. The master-interface must be ap-bridge for this to work. The VAP will appear to be on the same channel, just a different ssid.

Hi
What i wanted to do is:
I have a routerboard 133 with
ethernet 1
ethernet 2
ehternet 3
wlan1

I want to make a hotspot over the wlan1, (virtual Wlan2)
and also connect the routerboard over wlan1 to DSL (to a wireless DSL router),
The aim of this is that i don't have to use an Ethernet cable.

As far as I understood from your reply, its not possible to do this?
Thanks

And if it is possible, could somebody please give me a step by step procedure,
because I am totally new to this, and cannot get it work.

I don't think that is the way to do it. You need another radio. A real wlan2 in station mode. That will be the connection to your router. wlan1 will be the ap-bridge.

You can't have a radio running in station mode and ap mode at the same time.
