Which router?

Tue Apr 01, 2025 3:11 pm

Please bear with me, I am not a network specialist.

I have one ONT fibre connection. I want to create two separate networks. One will run a w-fit mesh (base with two satellites), and the other will have a different mesh/make with a base and two satellites. I want to connect my 8-camera CCTV wireless and NVR to one mesh/network for the simple reason of the placement of the base and satellites and use the other mesh for the household (three LAN cables, general wifi, etc), which is working well as it is. But its reach, as you can gather, is struggling with the CCTV placements. Have tried to purchase more satellites, but could not find.

I am supposed to have a 500/200 fibre connection, but that is a discussion for another day. I don't get these speeds at the source.

I believe the RB5009UG+S+ will do, but I have to ask about other options. MikroTik L009UiGS-RM 8port?
Any input would be much appreciated.

Hello @thomasz and welcome to the forum!

Yes, both the RB5009 and L009 can handle this setup just fine. You can create two separate networks (either using VLANs or by assigning different ports) and connect each mesh system to its own network while still sharing the same internet connection. The RB5009 is more powerful and better suited for future upgrades, but the L009 is a solid, budget-friendly option if your needs are moderate.

Thank you for the prompt reply, Larsa, much appreciated! I doubt if I will expand my network, three more years to retirement :)
