Support for PCI Express wireless adapters?

Thu Feb 14, 2008 5:09 pm

I was doing a little research today, on the internet as well as this forum, site and could not came with an answer for the question: Does mikrotik support pci-express wireless nics?

Then I relized that there is no pci-e wifi nics with atheros chipset at all?! The only search result with "atheros" and "pci-e" that made any sense was mini-pci-e wifi nic (for laptops).

I would appreciate very much if someone explains to me is there a pci-e nic with atheros chipset and will mikrotik support it?

ps: To mention once again, I have searched this forum more than 5 times for this issue without success :)

There is a Mini PCIe to MiniPCI adapter "in the works" if it isnt ready now..

Take a look at the back issues of the MikroTik news letter.

YUM !!

I was just searching for something for my SD01XD XPC, trying to take advantage of the unadvertised antennas and mini pci-express, and ran across this (admittedly sketchy) review of a SparkLan Mini PCI Express here. Hopefully this will help you out!

Bump...

I need to connect mini-PCIe or half-mini-PCIe boards to a RouterBOARD running OpenWRT.

The drivers are not a problem.... they are available for Linux 2.6 via mini-PCIe (USB).

Any progress on RouterBOARDs with mini-PCIe on-board or perhaps a generic adapter that supports USB connectivity?

Thanks!

You can look at this product: IA/MP1E

Thank you, but there are two problems (for me) with the IA/MP1E:

1) according to the RB11EmA.pdf spec file, this unit does not support USB connectivity, which I need for the 4G/WiMax wireless cards that I intend to use

and

2) this unit does not install on a RouterBOARD since I don't know of any RouterBOARDs in the 2xx/4xx/6xx series with a PCIe slot, only miniPCI.

Thanks anyhow!

Dear all :)

I have searched the MT site as this forum, and there is no information about supported PCI-E nor miniPCI-E wireless adapters.
Does anyone have experience with these adapters?

For example Ubiquiti SR71E, Gigabyte GN-WI07HT and similar.

Thanks in advance

we will soon have some new products with miniPCI-e but currently they will be only for 3G cards.

Ok for the new products. But are there any miniPCI-E wireless adapters that work with Mikrotik through IA/MP1E?
