PPPoE pointers

Mon Jun 30, 2008 2:58 pm

Hi all.

I am trying to use a Mikrotik mini-router to connect using PPPoE through a Zyxel Prestige 660R-61C router to Telefonica ADSL here in Spain, and I wondered if anyone can help me get it working.

The settings to connect directly through the Zyxel are currently as follows:

Mode: Routing
Encapsulation: RFC1483
Multiplex: LLC
VPI: 8
VCI: 32
ATM QoS Type: UBR
IP Address: Our static IP from Telefonica

Before we had the public IP the settings were on PPPoE, but it had to go to RFC1483 to get the static IP working.

I have tried everything I can think of to get PPPoE working on the MIkrotik including setting the Zyxel to use all the different encapsulations possible and am starting to come to the conclusion that PPPoE will not work over Telefonica when using a static IP.

Any ideas?

Cheers

First of all, if you wish for the MT to dial out, the Zyxel router needs to be set to BRIDGE mode and the correct VPI/VCI/Encapsulation settings.

If you cant get the above to work, you could always forward all incoming traffic on your Zyxel router to your MT.

First try setting the Zyxel to bridge mode and let us know if it works.
