anyone tried a 5.4 link?

I got some 5.4-5.7 grid antennas and went about trying a 7 mile link. I got nothing.. I was able to test that the cards, cause I had 2 in each mikrotik. I was unable to test another band, cause I didnt have onther pair of antennas. I feel like I am missing something. Is there something different aboutt the 5.4 band?

The obstacle penetration is poor as I am sure you know.
Any trees in the way will stop it..

And the alignment is much more critical, especially as the antennas will be higher gain anyway..

Do you have direct line of site, and good obstacle clearance (ie no trees close to Los??

what antennas are you runnig at 7miles ?

5ghz in general is harder to work with better over all performance . but it is a lot more particular in alignment .

you can be a couple of deg. off and it wont work at all. .

if your using 24dbi gain antenna 7miles should be a problem .

but if it is not working try a 1mile link then 2 and so on . if that is possible will help you in the long run just to make sure your not going crazy.

let me clarify

I have the same link with the same mikrotik using 5.8 antennas.
with 2 28dbi Dishes I get -67 signal

When I tried to us 5.4 antennas I get nothing.
these antennas are 28dbi parabolic grids.

I guess there could be some interference, I dont have access to a spectrum analyzer and frequency-monitor show nothing. So I am stumped.

you do realize that 5.3 - 5.4 has a shorter reach ., can you try 3 mile link so you can see what you got.

we run 5.3 links around 5-6 miles but i wouldnt go much futher than that

you sure you didn't change something else besides the freq? What powers are you at in each band? Even if you lose 3 db of power, you should still be in the -70 dbm range....more than enough for a good link. I suggest checking all the parameters again....what version of mt are you running?
