Should i choose MikroTik Proxy or Squid Proxy?

Mon Jan 14, 2008 12:45 pm

I'm planning to make something better for my network performance.
Right now i use WebProxy feature on MikroTik,..

My plan:
- Porn sites: I need content filtering (catch words like xxx, sex, nude, etc) ~ dansguardian? and can handle huge of porn sites or dangerous sites from urlblacklist (CMIIW).
And of course if possible, have feature of blocking IP address related to that forbidden sites, because sometime user can still access blocked site by entering the website's IP address.
Hope have good flexibilty of user access management
- Can have the report of proxy, daily report or weekly or monthly of user website visit. That include bandwidth usage, etc

Actually, i want to setup another linux box for dedicated proxy that running dansguardian, etc.
But i don't want deploy something that MikroTik will implement on MikroTik RouterOS in this short time, does MikroTik team planned for that features on v3 ?

So i will decide to wait until that time..

Thanks,
Yudi

all of this is already possible with mikrotik proxy in some way. unless you really want a separate box, you could just use RouterOS

Hello, how can i use with the RouterOS the blacklist URL or phraselists defined at an organization like dansguardian or other similar?

you can use address lists to block certain URL or filename:

Im using ipcop for my proxy. It works like a dream. When users try to access a xxx site then it shows a big access denied. And the proxy logs show which ip visited what address. I dont know if proxy adds more cpu usuage to the mikrotik. that is why im using a central proxy to filter all my traffic.
