What is the correct power for RB600 for 8 Radios XR5 MiniPCI

Sat Sep 13, 2008 9:10 am

this is one case i read it

... problems using a PAC POE-48i power supply then I switched to one of these 60 watt power supplies and haven't had any problems since.. The 16.8 watts of the PAC just wasn't enough to power up the rb600 with all of the cards and daughterboard. That board now has over 150 wireless clients connected ...

What is the correct power for RB600H with Daughterboard for use 8 mini pci Radios XR5?

I used 48 volt wiht 1amp, is Working!! But is it correct Power? or What is the correct power for this configuration?

Thanks

As far as I know it's not possible to run 8XR cards on RB600.

There is 25+ W output to extension cards. It means RouterBOARD 600 can give a little bit more than 25W for the wireless cards. 8 XR cards requires ±48W

so for fix the problem or for work perfect With 8 radio XR5 i have to put the 48W power supply but the RB600H with Extension going support or work with 48V with 1amp?

i don't wanted to burn RB600H with a lot of power, so that going Work perfect?

RB600 power circuitry can deliver approximately 25 or bit more W to the expansion items, like daughterboard and minipci interfaces.

It is very simple to calculate
Example:
RB600A without carts need ~9W
RB52 need ~1.452W
RB600A with 8xRB52 need ~20.616W
For this configuration you need power suplay min (Power Jack) 10V 2.1A
because 10*2.1=21W

How I calculate this:
RB52 Power requirements: 3.3V +/- 10% DC; 400mA max (300mA typ.)
3.3+10%=3.63V
3.63V*0.4A=1.452W
8x1.452W=11.616W
11.616W+9W=20.616W

Hi!!

Do you know if we can put a RB600 + RB604 w/8mPCI R52H?

that's regarding voltage requirements.

Thanks all!!!

Yes, 8 RB52H should not be a problem for the RB600.

please read it

1. How to change the signature resistance from 25K to 12.5K on RB600 PCB?

2. Can RB600 take 50W from RJ45 input? If so, does it take from both data and spare pair? If the answer is yes, you can use PoE60U as long as item 1 can be resolved.
-------------------------------------------------------

I am trying to tell you the following on the phone:

1. IEEE802.3af is for the PoE devices consuming 15.4W or less. If your device consumes more than that, you can’t find any IEEE802.3af power injectors to meet your requirement.

2. PSA16U-480 won’t meet your power requirement as it only outputs 15.4W.

3. As to PoE60U-560, it outputs 60W on both data and spare pair. And also, it detects 12.5K signature resistance as stated in the datasheet.

I believe the reason why PoE60U doesn’t work with RB600 is RB600 has 25K signature resistor on board so that PoE60U won’t be able to detect.

As your device requires around 50W, I think PoE60U will be a good fit as to the power requirement. But you have to check with RB600 vendor as to the following two questions:

Please let me know if you have any question.

Jason

1. According to 802.3af-2003 standard PoE device max supported power is 15.4W. Phihong PoE injectors with power over 15.4W just use the same detection and voltage control as 802.af-2003 complaint devises but they are NOT 802.3af complaint as they use different max load current control and probably different detection of powered device class. Please see 802.3af standard for details.
RB600 PoE detection is designed according to 802.3af standard but it was not tested with all non-802.3af PoE injectors.
The only tested Phihong Gigabit injector is POE20U-560(G) which is working fine.
If Gigabit connection on Ether1 is not required you can use any passive PoE injector with 30W 48-56V PSU.

Check this out... whoops, its only two pair. No good for gigabit.
