AP-bridge problem

Wed Jun 01, 2005 2:09 am

I just added the wireless package to my existing mikrotik router, and put in a new atheros based wireless card. Mikrotik boots up and sees it. I can enable the interface, but I cannot see it as an access point from a client 5 feet away. Also, in the interface menu, it shows all my other interfaces as R (running) except this one.... What am I doing wrong?

An AP interface won't show as Running unless at least one radio has associated with it, I believe.

Yes, you're correct. I've determined that fact since my posting. I'm still trying to figure out why it won't broadcast though. Also, I cannot find other AP's in the room with it, although I can find them on my laptop. I think it could be a bad card.

Or possibly you've got the pigtail on the wrong connector. Try switching the antenna config and see if it gets better.

^^ This is the same chipset as I'm using, the Atheros 5213

I've done what's recommended in the above post and sent a supout file to support... Any more ideas?

If you can pick it up at all from a laptop or something, then the card is working. If you do a scan, can you hear any of the other AP's in the area? This still sounds like a shorted pigtail or something.

I cannot pick it up from anywhere, including my laptop. I was saying my laptop could pick up other AP's in the room, as I have a dlink one that I can see, but the mikrotik can't see that AP and I can't see it from my laptop.

Oh, sorry, I thought I remembered you saying you could pick it up from a laptop close by, but not further away. Even without a pigtail at all you should be able to hear the AP on a laptop next to it so as long as you've configured it for AP-Bridge instead of the default Station mode, then I'd have to agree it sounds like the radio card is bad.

Do a scan from the AP.. Do you see the neighboring AP's in the scanlist? Also its in AP-bridge mode, but what band are you broadcasting on? Is default authenticate checked?

If you havent done so already check default authenticate, and change your band to 802.11-B only, set ur frequency to whatever you'd like then try and associate to the AP.

Yes I've done all of the above. I've now got the same dlink card, but an earlier hardware revision (A3) and it works perfectly with the same settings. Due to the other posts I've read on this board I am fairly confident that there is a problem with the new hardware revision of this dlink card (Chipset Atheros 5213). I've sent a supout file to support, maybe they will fix it in the next release :)
