Release version 3.0 first impresssions

Mon Dec 08, 2008 9:16 pm

I have upgraded from 3.0 rc3 to the release version 3.0. It upgraded with no issues. No export or import. Everything I have customized has stayed just as it should have. Thanks for the hard work on this version.

The graphing seems to be improved but not completely fixed.
In 3.0 rc3 you can see the temperature graph here is completely wacky...

A little while after the upgrade you can see the graphing looks better.

But ping graphs are still out of wack...

In the above image you can see the ping hitting 150ms. That is not possible.
The server is directly connected to this device and a continuous ping from the server to the switch is below 1ms.

I have probe interval set to 30 and timeout set to 20. I upped the timeout to see if that would solve the issue. Is the thread that sorts values to be graphed not calculating the correct timestamp for the item it is adding to the graph?

I often get false positives for things like disk or memory on various devices around the network it makes trusting the dude difficult.

Graphics on some devices never load if you go into the file list and try to copy the file it will not copy the file. When you cancel the copy an error message displays can't read from the source disk. Looking at the image for the device the image does not appear instead it just displays " Loading...". Manually going into the images folder removing the file then putting the file back into the dude fixes this until you restart the client. I tried this with both gif and jpg files they act the same.

The above issues existed in rc3 but things are a little better. I am using Windows Server 2k3 with a quad core xeon and 4gb of memory, looking at the server it seems lightly loaded. The page file is not being hammered and the cpu is holding below 10%.

More graphing weirdness... In the below image you can see the disk usage is totally sporadic. The amount used on these disks is not changing.

Hopefully they will fix these issues with graphing and maybe the false positives will disapear with them...

Thank you MikroTik, The Dude is still a completely great design and a fantastic product.

These are my first impressions (I've been using the new Dude for 24 hrs)

1) The upgrade was sweeeet (from 3.0RC3). No corruption issues, no problems with graphics not appearing. All good on my Win2k3 server. The installer did well :)

2) Most everything was already cool with The Dude, but as above I have a graphing issue.
My NetApp Filer reports 0-7% cpu in it's the little web control panel. :)
When I use Dude's snmpwalk, OID=1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.2.1.3.0 reports 0-7% cpu. :)
I create a function that returns oid("1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.2.1.3.0") and use it as the label for my NetApp Filer - it says 0-7% all the time. :D
BUT when I add a service, the history graph shows 8-15% :?

Everything else is cool.

I would like to add that I've spent weeks playing with Zabbix 1.6, Zenoss 2.3, PandoraFMS 2.0, Hyperic, GroundWork, Spiceworks, Osimus, OpenNMS and IBM System Director 6.1. The Dude is way faster, easier to use and doesn't require an entire server to itself.

I have my remote MTs sending their logs to port 514 on my dude box and I don't see anything. My config is almost the same as yours without the email portion.
