Performance Ethernet/Wireless

Sat Dec 20, 2008 4:22 pm

Hi,

there are Ethernet/Ethernet Benchmarks for the Routerboards.
But I've never seen Wireless/Wireless Benchmarks.

I've wireless relay sites with RB5xx and RB6xx. I never get the expected
performance. I'm not sure whether this are wireless problems
(5HGz/20MHz Channels/R52/ETSI) or the boards which are limited in
wireless/wireless traffic. May be MiniPCI transfers are limited?

So may be it helps to replace a RB600 which relays wireless/wireless
with two RB4xx with an ethernetcable between both forwarding
wireless/ethernet?

What's best Equipment for a 5GHz wireless repeater site?

Hei man the wireless performance depends on operating conditions. The ethernet tests are to show how performance is that product is, and a wireless test cant show you that. Do you think that a cm9 in RB411 is weaker than a cm9 in an RB600?

My problem is that I do not reach the wireless thruput I expect under good conditions.
So my question is what can be reached under optimal conditions when
relaying thru e.g. a RB600 with 2 R52. Can it forward full speed
65MBit (5GHz, TurboMode,Nstream) wireless to wireless or is there a lower limit given
by the hardware?

I have a link like:
RB433 -----> RB411 _____ RB411 -----> RB411
-----> means wireless link
_____ means LAN link
speed at the last RB411 is 50-55mbps and the CPU is ~40-50%. All RB's are bridged, no NAT or something else.

yes. I´ve similar links working as expected. But I´ve links
where both rb411 in your picture are replaced by a rb600
and I get much lower performance. So I try to find an explanation.
May be its a wiireless problem (2 cards in one board interfering)
or it`s some sort of hardware limit of the rb600 when forwarding
wireless to wireless. If its

there is a lot of people that complains about RB600 but almost none abouat RB433. Use Rb433/H its cheaper and better and tell us the results. For 100mbps traffic (2 cards) I'd use RB433H.

For a 5GHz repeater site with two radio cards I would use the RB433AH with two of the new R5H radio cards.

I am using RB411AH for most of my new single radio APs. They are sweet! No more worries about CPU load.

On the wireless links how much PPS (Packet Per Sec) do you get on the links?

H have a problem that i only get about 2500 pps TX and 2500 pps RX ?

Tom, have you had any problems at all with the 433AH boards? I'm about to place some on towers and would like more feedback.

Two issues I hope are different than RB411:
Power anomaly (fast off then on - flicker maybe) causes board to sit in zombie state until power off - wait then power on again

2nd - ethernet port sensitivity to lightning/static. Hopefully they hold up better.

Do you find either to be true or same hardware - just more of it on same board still with same problems as RB411. Don't get me wrong I love the RB411s but those two problems are a bit painful sometimes...
