Exporting a map to a new Dude Server

Sun Jan 04, 2009 1:00 pm

I hope some one could help me exporting few maps from my current Dude server to another server.

I am installing new Dude server and would like to export some of my maps to the new server.

I don't want to transfer everything on the current Dude server, and I don't want to re-invent the wheel again. (those maps took a lot of time and effort).

I know that the Dude doesn't support this kind of action by default.

I was wondering if someone has a way to do it.

Is it possible to tweak the saved .xml file to get the required info only?

At the end, I am hoping that the Dude team gives us this feature in the next release.

Dear rebellion,
Thank you for the reply, and I hope you can help me do that. Here is what I've found till now:

I already have tried to alter the exported file, but stumbled with the following:

1- Not knowing the structure of the file makes it very difficult to alter it, or pick or delete some parts of it.

2- The exported file is very large (about 700 MB), which makes it a nightmare to try to edit it (although I have 4 GB of RAM on my machine, let alone to find an editor that will open that size.)

Besides my lack of experience regarding this action.

I didn't know that the files are saved with the export file.

I will check my files folder, as I might of added many graphics, sound and Mib files.

Is it possible to keep the exported file for Dude data (Settings, maps, outages,...etc), and separate the files as they are almost static items, and backing them up once is enough.

This will help make periodic backups smaller.

Or
there could be a check box to include the files in the export file.... Just thoughts.
