Setting Up a CPE

Tue Jan 06, 2009 3:39 pm

Hi folks, lost again, and sadly in Zimbabwe, the yellow pages is a bit short on expertise in this field:)

I have a 411 card with an Atherios WLAN PCI card (RB52 I think).

I want to configure this as a CPE in station mode

The AP is running an SSID of "001". How do I get this routerboard setup so it automatically connects to the AP via WLAN1? I have entered the MAC address of the WLAN card on the CPE in the AP's access list.

Hoping this can be sorted out soon :D

Zimbabwe is not so bad - South Africa is next door, and there are a lot of resellers and consultants for MikroTik in that country.

As for your task - it's very simple. Set the clients wireless card to "mode=station" and set the ssid="" to the SSID of your AP. After enabling it - it will connect.

Thanks, great, connected easy enough, obviously I have a problem with the AP as I do not get internet through the AP when the CPE is connect to the PC, although on the little Linksys USB device I do....very puzzling to, a wireless noob like me.

Heres my basic setup.

Internet via WAN Port on D-Link 624+ router Gateway on the cabled network to this router is 192.168.0.1 DHCP is handled by this router although I also use a static list for some work stations.

AP: Mikrotik Router 433Ah Board with WLAN1 and ETHER1 enabled (ETHER1 192.168.0.2/24 Broadcast 192.168.0.255 and Network 192.168.0.1 (I have no idea what the last 2 are for!)
WLAN1 192.168.1.3/24 Network 192.168.1.1 Broadcast 192.168.1.255

I have BRIDGE1 with ETHER1 and WLAN1 as designated ports.

Regards

BRIDGE1 has no set IP

I see various items in the IP ROUTING LIST which i know nothing about.....have no idea what should be here. One is prefixed AAS and the other two entries prefixed DAC.

No DHCP client or servers setup on the AP.

Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I think you will need to hire a consultant to improve your configuration, because I see there many fundamental issues

Briane,

I went to Umtali Junior School many years ago and know the lay of the land where you are very well.

In fact, I used to own a rather large WISP in Zims...

PM me if I can be of help.
