Feature request, temperature

Thu Jul 24, 2008 1:34 pm

Hi all, for us in our environment, is important to know the temperature that is working the equipment, could be possible to add this feature in news boards, and see the temperature like the voltage and fan in the system health, could be helpfull for us.

thanks

welcome to the forum!

that would require some additional parts on the board. maybe future models will have them.

Aren't there already serial readable thermometers?
Just need Scripting/API commands to send and receive on the serial port.

Would have huge possibilities;
Printers, scanners, industrial controls, clocks, thermometers, etc.
The list is too numerous.

Imagine integrating the RBs into industrial controls.
Acheivable by only adding the ability to send and receive on the serial port through script and API.

A onboard temperature sensor would be a godsend.
I live in an area that goes from -30° to +45° degrees Celsius and having on baord temperature reading would allow us to look for patterns when problems occur to see if they are temperature related. Testing a RB in a freezer and having it work reliably isn't the same as a real world deployment of 300 units.

The other thing this would be extermely useful for is finding problems with sealing, wide temperature differences between similar units could show signs that there is a problem with the seals on a case.

Cheers

I would also like to see temp and voltage sensors on board for my remote sites. However I am doing it currently with a ethernet based unit and separate software. It would be nice on the higher end units.
